NesQuik is right about trade........... here's a little more info: There is a definite possiblity the Jet's get the Saints 09 2nd rd pick. The first trade was for Vilma who the Saints gave the Jets their 08 4th round pick for. If Vilma plays in 85% or more of the defensive plays the Saints give up their 09 3rd round pick and if he completes that step and is resigned the Saints then give up their 09 2nd round pick. With either of these the Saints will get back their 4th round pick in the form of the Jets 09 4th rounder. With the Shockey trade the Saints gave thier 2nd and 5th (2009) for him if the Jets though get the 09 2nd round pick the Saints then give their 2010 1st round pick to the Giants for him.
Heres the question. Would you rather have Vilma or a second rd pick in 2009. Personally I feel thats a very tough decision. Vilma is a starter in this league but he is not a playmaker or a game changer. you probably try and sign him because you never know what you can get out of a second rounder or any draft pick for that matter but if he is asking for big money I wouldn't even try and sign him if I was the saints.
Here's the Saint's dilemma.........they don't sign Vilma, he's a FA and he's certainly done in New Orleans. I've lurked on a few Saint message boards and read some articles about Vilma in Louisana papers and the Saint Fans love Vilma and believe he's the best LB for the Saints since Mills. Signing Vilma will also increase Shockeys' trade to Rd 1 pick for the G-men. The Saints will have a decision to make.......I believe they sign Vilma, he's playing very well (I believe a few weeks ago Vilma was the leading tackler in the NFL) and has been one of the few bright spots on the Saint's defense.
