No way. Nobody has won a Super Bowl in recent years paying anyone except for a QB (and even that's up for debate) more then 12 million dollars. It's just not worth it. The Seahawks last year payed Wilson 750k and their highest payed was Miller at 10 million. The Ravens the year before payed Flacco 7 million and Ngata made the most at 10 million. It just doesn't work. That's why you see teams like the Lions, Saints and Packers struggling to find the success that they saw only a few years ago. They have so much money wrapped up in one or two places that the rest of the team suffers heavily because of it. It is also the reason why the Bucs dumped Revis. They didn't really just cut him, they just switched Revis out for Verner and Johnson, which is no doubt a win for the Bucs. So yea a big NO to Andre if you ask me. 9 million would be the max I would give him.
if we get AJ, Vick starts and we are in "building a contender" mode, it would be a pretty decent offense but old Vick A.Johnson Decker C.Johnson Ivory Amaro Kerley Nelson Cumberland but we won't, so Geno starts. The absence of a true number 1 receiver makes our offense much different and moves every receiver's position up by 1 and makes our running backs less effective (unless you have russell westbrook)
Too many receivers here already. Plus he has hammy issues. Let the young guys fight it out for the rest of the spots.
I see where you are coming from, but the Jets would be in a different situation that Detroit, GB, and NO. GB and NO have made the playoffs a combined 9 times in the last 10 seasons, the missing season being when Sean Payton got suspended for the year. They also have the top tier QBs, so anything they do with money is a different game than the 28 other teams in the league. While I agree with your idea, Andre's dead money in 2016 is 2.7 mil and the Jets I think would be able to cut him. Getting that talent could be enticing since it would be a 2 year contract basically. It would instantly upgrade the team and only be a cap problem for 2 years max if Andre doesn't perform. It's a different scenario than signing Andre to 5 more years and have that weigh us down if something goes wrong. I definitely could see Idzik and the Jets inquiring about Andre, but I think end of the day the price to acquire would be too high for Idzik.
Excellent post. It also illustrates how important draft classes are to sustained success and the possibility of repeating, because teams end up making hard decisions about the players that got them the trophy in the first place.
I didn't mean to sound like I know. I was taking a guess on how it would play out. My guess is that Andre Johnson price will be a 1st or 2nd round pick as the highest pick and I think Houston wouldn't get rid of him if they don't get something like that. I don't think Idzik would pay that much, again a guess, so that's how I came to my made up conclusion on what will happen. It also doesn't sound like Andre has demanded a trade and from just his playing history he seems like a "professional" and not a diva player who would sit out games or training camp. Maybe I guess wrong, we will see.
I'd be all for bringing Andre to the green and white, he played with terrible QB's and on terrible teams overall and still has hall of fame consideration type production. I would hope we can get that contract reworked though if we did get him.
Let's get Jeff Scott to be the WR coach. info: http://www.clemsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=28500&ATCLID=205529441
Schaub is terrible? Pretty harsh for a guy that averages top 15 production and 90 QB rating. He's coming off one bad year where he was injured most of the time. That's funny. Plus the Texans were contenders for at least 2 of those years with Schaub.
2009: #1 in yards, #4 comp%, #5 TDs, #7 QB rating 2010: #4 in yards , #8 comp%, #12 TDs #9 QB rating 2011: missed 6 games, #13 comp %, #6 QB rating when he played 2012: #11 in yards, #6 comp %, #15 Tds, #9 QB rating 2013: missed 6 games, #17 comp %, #33 QB rating Sidenote: AJ only played 7 games in 2011, 13 in 2010 His numbers only dipped below average one year in the last 5. He was a top 10 QB in most categories up until this year. That's far from "terrible" or even average play. Significantly above average would be a better description, IMO. Now what would be hilarious is if the Raiders ended up getting Johnson. It would be a safe bet to say they'd be contenders.
Brilliant Analysis. Schaub has been league average to a little bit better up until last season where he completely fell apart.
