I'd offer a 4th or a 5th but they might not accept that. That's a good place to start though since Johnson kind of has them by the cajones. Might be able to land him for a 3rd or 4th rounder I'd guess. I think that's worth it and I think he would fit well on the other side of Decker.
I think he would be a perfect fit but with his contract I dont see it happening. Does he have 2 or 3 years left? With 2 years I would be into it.
I don't think his age is a problem. I think for Idzik it would be has contract. If Idzik truly believes the Jets are a playoff team then he should go get AJ. With Ivory,CJ,Decker,AJ,JK and that is one scary offense. Plus if Geno is the starter that some great weapons to have around a QB your developing. If Geno doesn't get staring job then you start Vick and it makes the Jets offense even more scary.
agree i'm ok with his age (as long as trade compensation isn't too steep), but not ok with that contract. he'd have to shave off 5M per year to make it more reasonable. I know AJ wants out of Houston, but at that type of price reduction he should prob stay put.
While this makes for nice conversation, AJ doesn't want to rebuild with Texas apparently, so why would he go to a rebuild in NJ? I think CJ2K ought to worry about being the starting RB he was 4 or 5 years ago as opposed to playing GM. I'm not convinced he is the answerfor the Jets at RB. He makes a lot of negative yardage runs to get those couple that break open. Ryan like his RBs to run north and south.
It was 5 word tweet he sent to his friend saying they would like to play together. Thats hardly him playing GM and I doubt its a big worry of his. Besides he's recovering from surgery.
As of right now we are a borderline playoff team..we could finish anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6. With Andre its hard not to say we would be knocking on the doors of NE for a division title. And in my mind thats a lot further then Houston will be going this season. Teams that were contenders the previous season arent guaranteed anything the next season. Carolina could fall off very easily. KC the same. Teams like Denver and NE have aging QB's so their window is closing fairly soon. Hell even Seattle in that division could hit a rough patch. Ya never know. If its me and all Im giving up is a 3rd rounder and maybe a future 5th then Im doing the deal. Contracts dont mean very much in today's NFL.
Contracts dont mean very much? After we just spent the last 2 or 3 years with our hands tied because of bad contracts?
Even if he wasn't recovering from surgery so what. Healthy players tweet all the time. Nothing wrong with a player saying he wants another player that can help this team win.
Oh yeah anyone is free to do it, I couldnt care less. I meant it more as he's sitting on the couch excited about the season and I think it shows in him asking friends to come play with his team.
That was overkill what we were doing. There's arent very many if any really bad contracts on the books right now. And even Andre at 10 mil wouldnt be very bad if he is being Andre.
We agree to disagree. The jets brought in Eric Decker and they already have David Nelson as their tall receivers that will get 40 or so catches (hopefully each and not combined). They don't need AJ to catch 40 passes. Kerley, Saunders and Amaro round out a nice receiving corps given the talent they have at QB, they don't need to rely on 1 guy like the Texans have with AJ for most of his career. Get a better QB and we'll discuss AJ, not with what they have. Also their run game has the potential to be a top 5 or better attack with a deep backfield. They aren't nearly as susceptible to one RB getting hurt like the Texans were when Foster went down that made the team one dimensional. The Jets set up is completely different than the Texans. Also, while Carr wasn't a true #1 pick (neither was Keyshown btw) his career was more derailed by him getting beat like a rag doll then anything else. Carr was sacked 249x in 5 years (76 in his rookie year), ridiculous by any standard. He threw 65 picks in 5 years as a starter behind an awful O line. Nacho threw 69 in 4 years most behind a decent to good O line and Nacho never approached a 60% completion rate in any year, Carr's career completion rate was just a hair below 60%. Case Keenum came in when Foster was out, the team was one dimensional at that point so the suggestion that AJ did well despite him at QB doesn't add up, the team was one dimensional, Tate's longest run from scrimmage was 20yds after Keenum was in.
Andre Johnson would be instant upgrade to the Jets WR core. It would make every WR job easier and help whoever the QB is. I think Andre Johnson has 3 years left and I think he can perform highly for 3 more years. I hope Idzik is looking into this or already looking into what it would take to get him or if he even is available. Maybe we will never hear if the Jets did reach out or look into this. Idzik runs a tight ship, a lot less leaks than previous years.
Okay, I don't get the idea that they already have 2 tall guys so they're set. Nelson is a good insurance policy at flanker, but he's just that, an insurance policy. And while Decker can play the the X, he's also not all that great getting off jam coverage when he's on the LOS. Bringing in AJ would mean that the Jets could play Decker most often at his natural position of the Y, where he can use his length to create separation from the defender. Of course we need a better QB, that doesn't mean you stop trying give give your QBs the best weapons you can.
