I'd roll with Johnson. I think he was overused early in the year and worn down mid-season.

Looking at MM's offenses with the Eagles, he was able to feature RB's in the passing game with great success.
i don't think the coach was the issue.

CJ has never been that type of back. His last year with Tenn showed some glimpses he could grow into that type of role, but it just never happened here. He was given chances. Pass protection wasn't good, nor were his hands.
It was worth a shot as he's dangerous in open field, but it didn't pan out.
I'd move on and give someone else a shot.

would still re-sign Powell, and am interesting in drafting a RB, so this wouldn't be my top priority.
If a guy like Spiller or Vereen is available at a reasonable price tho, sure go for it.

Lots of "ifs" in your scenario--"ifs" that every team can say in January.

And if Buffalo gets average production out of a journeyman QB they'll be a wild card and could challenge NE for the division. Their offense is better than ours, if we both fix the QB position they'll still be better than us.

The Bills are going to have about $15-$25 million in cap space too (according to a few articles) so just as we're going to spend, so will they.

Spiller isn't going to give a shit about Chan Gailey or Rex or The Jets or Buffalo or the system.

It's going to be about the money. But the Jets are not a better option coming off a 4-12 season, the Bills are simply a better team. For now and into the foreseeable future.

No running back his age is looking at a past OC to regain some of his glory or can look 3-4 years down the road for that team to be good.

It's all about the immediate cash.

Why did Eric Decker come here? Because of Marty M? Because the Jets were on the cusp, closer to the SB than say, Denver? To play for a better QB than say, Peyton Manning?

No, he came for the cash.

Folks are kidding themselves if they think Spiller is going to come here for Gailey or because we're so close to competing.

Don't even understand the fascination with Spiller anyway. The guy stays hurt and it's a insanely deep RB draft this year. I don't think Maccagnan will pull an Idzik and come away empty handed at a position of need in a draft deep at said position.

i think coaches, system, location, and playoff chances all factor in to some degree.

but money is by far the determining factor. these guys only play so long, and have to earn while they can.

I was agreeing with you. Was using your post to blunt some of the illogic that Spiller is going to come here for Gailey.

Or because, you know, we're the Jets.

Lol, that would suck if we don't come away with a good RB.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I wasn't implying that Gailey was the main reason why. I wasn't implying that at all.

I said numerous times that it will come down to the money. But a familiarity with a system he's thrived in could push him over the top for a small difference in money.

And him not having to sell his house/apartment and playing for a contender could just as easily push him back over the top to Buffalo for a small difference in money.

There is no way I'm overspending for this guy to get him over the top.

i would rather draft a RB this is extremely deep class at the position. someone like Duke Johnson fits the mold of RB you guys are talking about here could probably be had in rd 3..
