CJ to me is a lot like Harris was. He is the quiet steady leader and outstanding defensive play caller that sets his team in the right formation. He would be very hard to replace. He needs to groom his successor next year.
He looked like Ray Lewis in his prime in that game. Wound up with a core injury because when you are playing Superman on the field eventually something gives unless you are Ray Lewis.
I don't remember his contract overall. I doubt that he is a potential cap hit for the Jets, and he's still really not that old age wise. Would the Jets really consider moving off from him? Anyone know And yes he's been one of the team MVP's as well this season.
CJ's first game as a Jet he was single handedly destroying the Bills, before getting injured. Very nice to see him come back and finish the job!
If we cut him next year 2023 post-june 1 its a 17mm cap savings with 4.5mm dead and we get out of the 2024 portion of another 21.5mm cap hit. So he's a renegotiate candidate to say the least. Bookmark this site--its very informative: https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/new-york-jets
That's good to know. I'm hopeful he'll want to renegotiate and continue to build what could be a very special defense for years to come.
