Despite the dropoff from the 2010 level of performance, and even playing fewer passing downs, Scott still rated above average. They have to pay him, anyway, and there are too many other holes to fill. The cap is the cap. Logic dictates that he comes back. The only way it makes sense that he doesn't is if Scott somehow was too much of a distraction, too much of a locker room malcontent, and more so than we presently have any facts to show. And if that were the case, what does it say about Ryan, his supposed connection to players like Scott who supposedly want to play for him? And about Tanny and the contract the Jets have with Scott? No, I think he comes back, because the alternatives would be quite disconcerting.
I don't think anybody associated with the team liked how he left the locker room at the end of last season..they may very well be worried he will be a distraction.
Scott's on the bubble to drop out of the NFL at this point. He's reached the age where he won't get the benefit of the doubt except from coaches he has played for during his prime. Basically that's Rex and Pettine at this point. He either has a good season or he figures out what's next. I'm not worried about his motivation to play well at this point.

LOL I saw on ESPN some idiot was talking about "sources" saying the Jets are going to trade Scott plus some draft pick for Tebow and Sanchez to Chiefs.

The "and" was conjunctive of two independent clauses. No comma was necessary preceding the and, although I can see how it would have clarified meaning.
I have no idea who said it; but if I had to guess, the irrationality of the information has Stephen A. Smith written all over it.
Any time you see Wilson on the field, Scott is on the bench. That's his gripe, getting 'yoinked' for the nickle package. So, while it sucks that Scott can't cover the slot (or the TE in a 2 receiver set) anymore, it's good for the Jets that we have Wilson who with the extra playing time, is coming along just fine. If we DO replace Scott with an ILB that can cover the slot, you will have Wilson on the bench 95% of the time (he'll still be out there in dime). Maybe that's when Rex moves Wilson to #2 and Cro to FS. But not before Rex has an ILB that can cover the slot (and/or releasing TE).
As long as the Jets have to change personnel routinely to get things done there are going to be problems. Scott doesn't need to be able to airtight cover the TE but he does need not to be a huge liability when he's stuck one-on-one with them. The Jets defense was situationally great last season and it absolutely blew chunks when the wrong personnel package was on the field and the opponent said FU and went no-huddle to exploit that. Aaron Maybin may have looked great at times last season but he was part of the problem. So was Bart Scott. So was Sione Pouha. So was Mike Devito. You can't have a defense where 3 or 4 positions are like a fish out of water when a smart QB is on the field against them. That's just the kiss of death.
Maybe the fact that Bart Scott rates above average in some aspects is why the Jets are trying to get something for him to begin with. He may be a very solid blocker for Harris, but his position is the most easily replaceable in the LB corps that Rex keeps. What he brought to the team was knowledge and Rex's culture, but they rightly avoid giving him and lot of pass coverage responsibly and he hasn't been one of the guys calling signals. The team appears to feel that those intangibles he brought with him have run their course.
I think it's more likely that he got a year older and his above average skills deteriorated to just average and the Jets really don't want to be stuck with the guaranteed contract that they gave him last season for this year despite the fact that he was over 30. Dumb moves cause ripples down the road.
