Despite the Jets having pretty good drafting position the past seven or eight years, their roster is mediocre in talent and has a shitload of holes to fill. Due to incompetent rebuilding, neither the defensive, nor offensive units are anywhere near close to peaking. At this state, the Jets should have had at least one side of the ball shored up. Nothing screams pathetic league doormat more than a half-full stadium in the middle of December against a playoff contender. If no change is made at HC or GM, fan base will continue to have low expectations.

I guess my point is simply, he has been compromised - it’s reported, at least - by being within a stupidly constructed organization where the coach has just as much say in team construction as the GM. And thus having to do certain things according to Bowles wishes.
If you buy the theory, he hasn’t had a real chance to do his job. (That may be untrue, I acknowledge).
But if it is the case, I’d want him to have a chance to do things his way.
Probably fair to expect him to explain his plans before giving him the reins. But I really think the problem is Bowles. And in any “troubleshooting” situation you want to eliminate one variable at a time.
I mean, if there’s a great GM candidate out there who wants to rescue the Jets, sure. I’m not married to Macc but I personally would first see what a real coaching staff and a Macc could do. What he has done well is avoid crippling contracts and create a ton of cap space.
As we all agree, I think, there’s a ton of turnover every year and a good shopper could build a winning team fast with that kind of bank. I guess that goes for Macc or whomever else is GM.

Of course I agree that he has been compromised, but I can't feel sorry for him. That isn't something that was sprung on him at some point after he was hired. He knew that was going to be the situation when he interviewed and took the job anyway.

At any rate, it looks like he will still be the GM next year, so we all have to hope that his bad picks and decisions are a result of his being constrained by Bowles and the Johnsons, and that they have finally wised up, and are going to set him free to do things his way. If not, we're gonna go nowhere fast, and be stuck with him for another 2-3 years.
