4-12 in year two is rough when you didn't really establish a framework before that. I'd rather see Idzik stick around for year 3 but I understand why Woody Johnson is firing him.
I'm sad Rex is going but can you really blame woody? No owner can keep a coach after going 4-12 and missing playoffs past 4 years. Rex is probably the best coach out there, but there's no way he was going to keep his job. That being said, if Woody hires this Vikings or Browns guy for GM and Jim Mora Jr. or Hue Jackson as head coach, I'm gonna pull my hair out. All of those options will lead to more billboards next year. Please go after someone from a successful franchise!
I think Pryor has major potential in the box. But Rex never had a real FS after Jim Leonhards broken leg and he didn't really use Leonhard as a FS anyway. Same with Kerry Rhodes. Rex didn't like Rhodes because he thought he played centerfield like a FS. That's what coaching Ed Reed for a bunch of years will do to you. The guy who replaces Polamalu at SS in Pittsburgh is screwed.
No, Woody is firing John Idzik alongside fan pressure. We don't know that the pressure was what put him over the top but it does suck that the perception will be out there.
The new HC will surely bring in his own support staff. Sanjay Lal should be shot into outer space via capsule.
I'm going to guess that we're going to get a pretty comprehensive cleaning of the stables this time around. Nothing says fresh start better than hosing the entire place down and making sure the smell is better next year.
Alongside of, because of......it amounts to the same thing in this case. Idzik did a terrible job in some aspects, no doubt. But it's a bit of a contradiction when folks go on to talk about how attractive the GM job is because of all the cap room he's left and how none of the 'poor' free agent signings are long term or restrict the team in any way. In almost any other organization, he's not fired and gets a chance to hire his own staff and use the room he created. I'm not unhappy he's being axed, but I'm not going to believe that this wasn't mostly fan pressure.
It's a fair perspective to have. I think lots of little things added up and in the end it was time to clean house. I think the press conference in mid-season was a disaster with a capital D. The only way to have that press conference and have it work out was to just stand there and take questions until they'd all been asked. Really the Jets shouldn't have had the press conference at that point but if you're going to have it prepared remarks was not the way to go. What's the worst questions they could have asked? Certainly not as bad as the spin they put on the monologue.
It's kinda sad that Rex will be let go. But it's at that point where it's time to move on. I've pretty much let it be known that I disagree with firing Idzik after 2 years.
