The crazy thing is that he was only fined $639 by the Rockaway Town Court for this DUI. How is that possible? My buddy got popped driving home and paid thousands and thousands. Herndon causes a crash and gets that light of a fine? Now he loses 4 game checks so I guess there is some justice
I'm pretty sure the thousands he paid was overall defense of his DUI. A family member of mine got hit with a DUI a long time ago. The fine itself was similar to Herndon's. He then paid thousands in attorney fees, DMV fees, substance abuse and driving courses, his bail to get out of jail, etc. It ended up costing him thousands, but his initial fine was under $1k if I recall correctly
I'm sure he had an attorney so probably pled it down to a more minor charge. He has a 12 hour intoxicated river program to do and probably some other classes but $639 does seem a bit low.
Personally I think Herndon did need to be punished and maybe its blessing in disguise that he got really nailed for this. Perhaps he will think twice next time because of how unpredictable these suspensions can be. That said, seeing Tyreek Hill get off scott-free and seeing Herndon receive double the suspension time really makes me think the league has got it in for the Jets. We're an easy target since we've sucked for so long so it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
Two completely different cases. There was no evidence in the Hill case as far as who injured the child, and the second event and investigation focused only on his Fiance, hill wasn't even named or investigated. Herndon was found guilty and there was no question what occured. Near double the legal BAL, injury and 10s of thousands in property damage. Every report from the time of Herndon's arrest stated he would be receiving a 4 game suspension. It's not double and doesn't waiver from the league standard. 1st suspension is 2 games unless there are aggravating circumstances , then 4 games. Herndon had 3 things that could be considered aggravating circumstances, the BAL,the injuries and the property damage. Hopefully DFS is closely monitoring Hills son. The real crime in all of this is an innocent child was hurt and endangered. Hopefully he isn't placed back into that situation, regardless of who abused him. Personally I believe in cases like that, both parents should be charged and jailed, one for the abuse, the other for allowing it. But unfortunately, that's not the law.
Actually, champ is right on that one point...once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic. An alcoholic can stop drinking, but they never stop being an alcoholic. It's a disease/addiction
I get that...I really do. But Champ would cut the guy immediately...whether he's an alcoholic or not.
Yeah, you're right, and I wasn't really trying to defend champ. He has dug his own grave, and failed to heed the old wisdom that "When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging."
So the league will announce Griffin's suspension right after Herndon's ends. Joe Douglas is a genius!
Heres the thing Getting a DUI doesnt make you an alcoholic Labeling someone an alcoholic for one bad decision is like calling someone a pot head because they tried it once at a concert.
I typed the same thing...but I erased it because I didn't want to get into a whole "thing" about it. I have lots of experience with the subject.
Of course you're right, Richard! I forgot that he said that, so didn't respond to that aspect, was just saying that once one is an alcoholic, they always are.
I agree with both of you that just because Herndon was arrested for DUI doesn't make him an alcoholic. champ was totally wrong to do that. When I responded, I forgot that he had said that, and was just responding to the one point.
