Chris Baker is a good blocker, has excellent hands and can barely get separation from the average defender. He wasn't as good as the diva act he played at the past couple of seasons. I think the Pasts will put him to good use, but we upgraded with Keller and he was miffed because he wasn't good enough to win the starting job over DK in the long run. I'm not crying over the loss of Baker, I just wish he had gone to a non-division rival. You'll only see the whining and wringing of hands about losing a slightly above-average player, after having replaced him handily, on a Jets board.
There are plenty of things to criticize about Baker's game. You chose one of his strengths. Gooooo ignorance!
I know he was causiong some problems but we should have kept him. Wel let him slip into the enemies hands and it will bite us in the ass one day. He could block and he had GREAT hands.. If you don't think so go watch some footage. We should have never let him go
Ala Jarmain Wiggins! Bella-cheat, Always finds the right niche for his players. Im sure we will see a "Why couldnt we do this with Baker" thread down the road.
I think there was another one a while back when he started to ask for money. I'm thinking Belly will find a role for this guy and he will excel , thus leading to the typical thread asking why we couldn't do this!
I love the way people sum up his whole career on one bad play in Oak. Baker was actually one of our most reliable players. He did what he had to do week in and week out. Was he "Elite"? NO, but he did everything and did it very well. I think what we have here is fear, again a word that I can't believe I'm using in a Football Forum. Fear that he is now sleeping with the enemy and fear that he will come back to haunt us ala Pennington. You know what, Thank you Baker for all your years of service. We all know that was a BS call in Cleveland. I will applaud you 1 time upon your intro but after that you can choke on the field for the rest of your time on NE.
still managed to come up with come crucial catches and he's got a ring to show for it! He was a go to guy in Minny.
Dude, he is a TE. Part of their job is to block on certain plays. If he was able to get open in his first 7 years as a pro, you think the QB's might have rallied to throw him the ball more? Plain and simple. He was an average TE. No more, no less. Losing him is not going to kill the Jets offense. Keller will bury Baker's ahem legacy.
Clearly it's a TEs job to block.. but most teams now have two specialized TEs. You're trying to compare him to a full-time receiving TE and tell me he didn't get thrown the ball because he couldn't get open. He did get thrown the ball, he got open and he made plays, he just didn't do it full-time. The guy isn't slow, he's about average.. even pretty quick for a TE. He won't get separation downfield or make breakaway plays, but he can easily hold his own 1-on-1 with a LB. You're right though when you say losing him probably won't hurt us.
Chris Baker will get a TD reward on a push out vs. the Jets when it's not even close. You know it's coming. Phile it under 'Jets, Can't Script It'.
Nope! But given the chance, I bet Rex would love to. For all the bitching on here in 2007 about the Pats running it up, I bet money that Rex never takes his foot off the pedal (if the opportunity arises) when he has a team down! And I bet if it happens you guys are gonna love him even more!
How many TD's is he up to now? 8? 10? I'm pretty sure he has more holding penalties than TD's. Fuck this JAG.
