That's a fair point. His old contract took him through this current season. However, he had become a headache. They gave him a new contract as much to calm tensions still carrying over from the Kendall situation as they did to provide insurance while Keller developed. IMO, it was a difficult situation and they played it as best as they could for the good of the team.

See, we differ here. The Leon situation shows that he's grown and is now handling these situations perfectly. He gave Baker the contract he whined for while we needed him, then cut him loose for understandable reasons. I don't think we can make a judgment on the situation until we see if there's a new blocking TE on our roster opening day. Cut to Leon, and we see him offering a more than fair contract to reward a player who has outplayed his rookie contract, while not giving in to the absurd demands of his agent. Whatever happens in the deal, Tanny comes out smelling like a rose.

Ah. See, I was under the impression Vollmer was the future at left tackle, O'Callaghan at right. I think O'Callaghan steps in and starts for Kaczur this season. Vollmer has been filling in for Light, but Light still has 2 years left on his contract, I believe. I don't see them cutting him this offseason.

Again, you're making awfully bold assumptions about Brace. With Jarvis Green backing up Seymour, I'd assume Wilfork is the player they keep. They could slide Brace out to DE, and he could well become a great backup, but I doubt he takes over and starts next season.

from what some pats fans tell me, jarvis green is a good backup, but not what they would want for a starter. the pats fans are ansy about losing seymore or wilfork. evidently, they seem reserved to the idea of losing one, hence why they seem to be putting so much hope with brace.

they also have another defensive lineman they drafted in the later rounds that they claim is the surprise of training camp and is going to be aanother horse for their front line.

    its an odd phenomenon.

the talk of promoting Ainge to the #2 spot because he did well against the St. Louis Rams backups who aren't going to make the squad was laughable.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that. The only thing I've heard from Pats fans about Jarvis Green is that they're worried he's going to try to sign with the Saints instead after this season and they don't want to lose him. Should be interesting to see how it plays out. We'll see how Brace develops. The Green issue could determine which of those talented two on the DL the Pats keep. I'd much rather push Brace into the NT spot if I have to use him next season.

Odd fan base, that's for damn sure. We used to idolize the backup QB. Now we idolize the #3 QB. I'm not really sure how that makes sense either, but I'm not surprised anymore to see people doing it.

What's the over/under on Baker threads before the end of the season? I'm gonna go with 15.

    edit:
I wouldn't be surprised if we re-signed Bubba Franks after the first week.

every TD he catches is about 6 threads, so i'll take the over, saying he catches 3 this year.

I will guarantee the Pats will make sure he gets one against the Jets so that there are 25 threads merged into 9 about it after that sunday.

I know he had 2tds and i could of sworn he had a td or 2 the first game and i didnt see the game this week of them but any how.. watch this season how brady utilizes Baker throughout the season he is going to have his best nfl year... And the fact that all we really have is Keller says some thing where we have to try and make a DL conversion to TE thats sad...

Im not going to talk smack but pay close attention to him during the season and follow his stats...

Baker was not part of team suited for his talents. If we didn't get Jobbed In Cleveland , he would would be mentioned with great reverence. The Jets offensive scheme never utilized this guy. With Penny , it was either dump offs or timing out routes. Penny's lollipops floated over the middle to Baker would have been picked off all day long. I will say baker wasn't a fast guy and was rarely all by himself. I'm much happier with Keller ; who has much faster legs , but blocking skills remains to be seen.

if we had them both it would be a one two punch .... i know he wasnt the best TE ever to play the game but people just think he was garbage and not worth the time..

If Chris Baker was open all these years, do you not think the QB's would have thrown him the ball?

Average TE at best. JO for mouthing off like he was Shannon Sharpe. Hope Harris or Scott pop him in his big mouth.

I'm sure it's been said a million times, but he was underutilized as a receiver and spent most of his time blocking. He doesn't have great stats because he split time with other TEs, not because he couldn't get open. And he only really mouthed off that one time, before he got shitcanned.

Yeah. For 8 years he was able to be open but the team didn't want him to be. Right.......
