Wednesday, December 12th, 2007 by Gary Grund

Dave Hutchinson of the Star-Ledger is reporting that the Jets renegotiated TE Chris Baker’s contract last month. The deal still runs through the 2009 season as it did when he first signed it in March of 2006. The team basically front-loaded his contract moving a large amount of his salary to this season. His base salary went from $850,000 this season to $2.37 million..."

"...Baker had a 1 mil Roster Bonus coming to him in 2008 and a 1.5 mil roster bonus coming to him in 2009. It looks like they added those roster bonus numbers this year because they were under the cap.

"Next yr his cap figure according to a couple sites, is 1.25 mil. It will cost 500k to cut him. Looking at those numbers he will be here next yr.

"2009 He will count 1.25 mil agianst the cap if he is cut he will count 250k agianst the cap. He might sign an extension before that yr but most likely they will let him play it out...."

This is what happened in November of 2007, just in case everybody understands.

Then what the fuck does he want? If he wants more years, then maybe there is a discussion- but in terms of cash hes being paid damn well. No wonder the Jets aren't stressing of him bitching.

He won't be a Jet at end of his contract. They will let him go.

Someone needs to remind the media that he essentially got paid up front last year for this season.

I'm still down with Baker. I'd like to keep him somehow you can never have too many quality TEs but I'm thinking it's not likely..

I hate the way the media just ignore this information. Obviously the Jets are too classy to throw it out there, but you'd think an "unnamed source" could mention it.
