I dont want him on the team anymore. He is using the same agent to do what Pete did last yr. Did anyone mention his loyalty on the board? How loyal is this SOB who can't keep his new contract longer than 3-4 games? Shit, franchise tagged players play a whole yr too and this shit wants more money than he agreed only 4 months ago.

There really seems to be little to no market for a tight end in this league. You don't find anyone trying to leap up in the draft to select a tight end let alone even pick one in the first round *cough* Kyle Brady.

There is no market for an average tight end, he has no leverage and the worst case scenario leaves him pissed off while he is working. The FO shouldn't budge a bit.

Lets see what kind of impact the Jeremy Shockey trade demand has on this situation. At least he is a top tier threat. And it seems that the Giants have replaced him with Boss anywho. I doubt anyone has to game plan against Baker, he is an afterthought at best.

You get paid for what you have done in the league. This is why Franks got a paycheck, but its only a one year contract, you tend to get paid more when someone knows they have an option to loose you at the end of the year free of charge.

You mean to tell me they will pay old ancient packers tight end over a million for this year and not even give baker, who is clearly better than franks. I don't know what to say, the jets don't like their own players enough to lock them up first. If I were baker I would be very upset too. He is a good tight end even though the jets haven't used him the way they should. If he is let go, I think he'll do very well with another team.

I have said this countless times in the previous thread but he is a very solid blocker who just happens to look bad because he has to help with Moore and Clement the past few years. He often gets the responsibility of taking 2 men so our QBs dont get pummeled to the ground on the right side. Pennington and Clemens have alot to thank to Baker because he's more often than not taking care of the rushing OLB's who are looking to headhunt.

I understand you dont like Baker but the dude has been underrated for the team and has done what has been told. Again, if Baker is asking for a minor raise give it to him but I am with you in that he wants a monster deal then he cant get it. He signed a small deal to help the team and did this prior to all of the Jets big time spendings and while you can say its his own fault and everything, I would be upset too if I saw new guys get way more cash especially the guy who's suppose to be your backup.

No player takes a small deal "to help the team" with the exception of Tom Brady.

And, Baker just got a raise...I really don't think anyone forced him to sign it and it had no positive impact on the team salary cap.

Yes.......Its called loyalty and Baker showed that for the team that picked him round 3 in the draft. He didnt complain when Doug stinkin Jolley got to start over him at one point and he does what's told of him.

He signed it prior to the Jets spending big bucks however because he just like most of us fans was not expecting Woody to open the wallet. He SHOULD honor the contract but you guys cant get mad if he wants a little increase in the pay as I am sure most of you would want it too for your respective job.

Personal attacks? Silly. Just because I have his name as my username, doesnt necessarily mean hes my favorite player on the team.....

I do know he is a good player though and has done well for the Jets the past few years.

Not a personal attack in any way... self concious much ;)

He's average at best, and he's been just about that... average. Personally I expected more from him since we drafted him... he hasn't gotten it done, signed the new deal in December... now he wants to be traded? I let him sit and rot for 2 years, and if he misses mandatory workouts etc, start fining him.

Everybody else got paid... wwwaaahhh... perform and get paid... he has yet to out perform his original contract, do so, and get a raise...

    again... very replaceable.

I think it is sheer madness that he's asking to redo his deal 4 stinking months after redoing his deal. That is ridiculous and should not be tolerated by the FO.

With that said, he is better than people are giving him credit for, but nothing special. In 2007 he is ranked 19th among all tight ends for receptions, yards, and TD's. His best stat has him ranked 11th for total first downs, though still 19th for first down percentage. This is in his best year as a pro folks.

how can you blame him for wanting more money? they signed bubba franks, as a backup, and he's makin more money then baker! thats bullshit!

baker is a very good TE, with very good hands. i can see he's gonna be this years pete kendell. has the same agent, too.

bad move on the FO'S part. we need this guy.

I am a fan of Baker.

His 12Dec07 contract upgrade is not dry yet.

I understand his fit of pique regarding Bubba Franks.

Baker is following his lawyer / agents "squeaky wheel gets the oil" mantra.

This is not the time. On the same day the NYJs are trying to get $8 million back into the cap, he wants the past to take a deduction from their win.

Baker should shut the fuck up and just play ball with the NYJs.

As usual, they will take care of him, when the time is right.

    Not now.

    LOL

That's my only response. Look, I like Baker but its ridiculous that he's requesting a trade already. It wasn't long ago that he was drumming up zero interest as a free agent.

What was the point of this pos, honestly? Adds nothing to the discussion. I dont mean it against Ellis the poster or anything but I just want to make it clear to everyone that I am siding with Baker because I think hes a good player and not because of the name in my username.

I hope that clears up everything.

I dont think any TE coming out of the draft will be as good as Baker or at least clearly outplay him, honestly. Thats the problem we will be in if we deal Baker away and let Franks start at TE.

I feel that this is the Jerald Sowell case all over again. We havent had a great FB since he was here(Until Tony Richardson and his 1 year of play for us though).

can someone please clear up something that is confusing me? everyone is saying that baker signed an extension on December 12, 2007. Yet, doing a google search for "Chris Baker contract Jets" (not allowed to post links yet) finds a Cimini article from January 1st, 2008 saying that Baker is looking for a contract extension. So what am I missing? Cause there is no way he was complaining about wanting an extension two weeks after signing one (not that it makes more sense to complain about it 4 months after).

I'm a huge baker fan. underused, underrated imo. he got a raise in dec 07??????

holy crap, he now makes 683,000. thats lousy money imo. but he did agree. this sucks all the way around but i'd be mad too if I got a raise from 9 to 10 bucks an hour and then they hired a new guy to work with me for 30 an hour.

all of a sudden the raise ain't lookin too good

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...r_turns_up_the_heat_for_new_de-2.html?ref=rss

So hes been asking for a contract deal since Janurary and it was unadressed? Wow.
