    consistency and red zone

I'd want Plax as a red zone target, which is a role he'd flourish in. I also want to see some consistency at the WR position. But Plax isn't the answer at receiver. I don't think Schilens is either.

He would waste a roster spot for a guy cant play special teams, and consistently showed that he cant get separation. Not to mention theres no way he can be be a #1 or #2, Kerleys our #3, and if we draft drafted a rookie that would make him @ best a #5.

I dont want to pay a #5 whatever the vet min for someone Plaxs age would be.

Id rather take my chances with a late round rookie or practice squad guy (ie Riley) who can at least contribute on special teams and has room for upside and growth

I really hope the Jets are looking at Braylon. Hopefully they can wait it out.

He's a depth player. They will have him running deep routes to open up the offense. But it's fairly clear that he's a body catcher and that he would rather go down then get hit.

He does look like a pretty solid athlete but that doesn't get you anywhere in the NFL.

    true

I agree with that. I just want them to keep receivers for more than a few years for once. They should've never let both Cotch and Braylon leave.

So we took a flier on a matchup nightmare, most likely at sanjays recomendation... i like the move... still need more insurance at the wr spot. I dont think this counts out braylon at all.

What would you rather have impressive signings like Derick Mason and plax? so they can destroy our locker room with their over inflated ego's.

We are all struggling to adapt to the fact that its time for a change in mentality in the jets front office, no more mega contracts for mediocracy, no more big splashes on the first day of free agency and neglecting other gaping holes that need addressing.

It's time for change so embrace it I'm glad that Tanny has realised championships are won through the draft and picking up projected talent like Schillens, this kid's hungry cheap possibly a good locker room influence and providing he stays fit could end up being our Victor Cruz

I like our methodical approach now come on everyone stop shitin on every signing and lets take some positive looks on what we are trying to do

    Go Jets

Depth signing. Guy is nothing special.... Hopefully we go after Braylon in June or whenever he's healthy.

I kind of agree. Plax would be a good situational red zone guy, but should generally be off the field before. The only issue I take with Plax returning is that he still seems a bit thuggish. Too many times he commits blatant penalties, that look like he's just doing it to try and get away with a dirty play. We lost quite a bit of yardage from that. As long a Schillens has speed and can get open down field it will change this team for the better. My heart was set on Braylon, but this could work provided he actually doesn't get hurt again.

This Schilens kid is just as tall (1" shorter) and is definitely faster then Plax. As long as he has decent hands he shouldnt be bad at all. I actually think its a good signing because its low risk-high reward, and it still lets us go out & possibly sign another WR.

    Well put.

If Schilens is able to stay on the field he's exactly what we need. Obviously that's a big IF considering his past. I don't know if Braylon is still a legit option for the Jets after this even though Chaz has serious injury concerns. My guess is that we'll be taking a WR at some point in the draft.

Yup, this was probably a depth move. We can still go after Braylon

theoretically, this guy is pretty much what braylon is. a tall receiver with the speed to get downfield. i've read that he run blocks too. so.. maybe we just won the lottery.

on the other hand.. he hasn't had a healthy season since 2008.. that's a long time ago.

also, this signing has to significantly hurt the chances of bringing braylon back. they fill the same exact role. and assuming we draft a receiver, which i think we do, that would be 6 wrs on the team, with only pt and possibly the rookie playing special teams.

We needed WR depth, so this is a good signing. Now we have

    1) Holmes
    2) ?
    3) Kerley
    4) Schilens
    5) Turner

We just need to find a #2, either in free agency or the draft.
