this is trying to paint too much of a bleak picture. comparing any wr to calvin johnson is going to be unfair. but just because we don't have calvin johnson doesn't mean sanchez has been handed some shit players around him and told to make something out of nothing. the jets have had pretty good players around sanchez. until this year, the run game was always a strength. so taking just receivers.. the only qbs around his age that have had better are probably stafford and matt ryan. he's worked with better wrs than flacco, bradford, freeman, mccoy if you wanna include him. what you describe sanchez doing is stuff that every qb has to do.. except stafford. that boy doesn't have to do shit. he's still pretty good though.
This is very true, but Sanchez hasnt had any form of consistency at the WR or RB position. Each year there’s been a new #1 both positions. Thats tough on any QB, let alone a developing one in a mish mosh of a system. On a side note, its funny watching Stafford play. I remember in the Saints playoff game he threw up a bomb to CJ and he was covered very well, and he came down with it... Later on, he threw the same exact ball on the same exact go route to Titus Young... except this time it was intercepted. Stafford is a lucky lucky man.
yeah, the carousel hasn't been good for him. but the poster made it seem like sanchez was working with a bunch of nobodies and i disagree. but yeah, calvin johnson is a monster. stafford is a lucky lucky guy.
Last year Holmes did not play like a viable weapon. And Plax was a huge disappointment. This year, we need an upgrade. My point is that Braylon circa 2012 is not that sure-fire upgrade. If you're comfortable with our WR corps right now then I don't know how you can expect any aspect of our offense to be better than it was last year. No legit deep threat=no running game.
This is where the conversation becomes very gritty. Information gets lost in the name of an athlete. Santonio and Plax on name value alone give people plenty of reasons to point fingers at Mark as not being able to get his weapons the ball. The problem is that name value alone can skew assessment. Santonio did not play like Santonio. So saying Mark had Santonio means nothing after that fact.
Chaz could be calvin johnson easy. He needs to be more aggressive and tougher. But I like him on the jets.:buffaloblows:ats_suck:
you're only talking about santonio this past year. last year, he was great. and as bad as plaxico was, he was a major reason mark was so successful in the red zone. this is about the receiving talent around him during his career.. cotch, braylon, santonio, keller, plax, kerley to a certain extent.. that's not a bad cast at all. that is more talent than the qbs i mentioned with have worked with. mark's not the only one to blame for our offense. but why do so many people support sanchez by throwing everyone else under the bus? it's been a collective effort to be shitty, starting from the oc all the way down to mulligan.
I'm not throwing everyone else under the bus. I'm just throwing them under the bus as well. You can't blame Mark for not finding anyone open and getting sacked, claiming he should have found a receiver to dump it off to, and then complain that when he tries to find someone open in the same scenario and throws a pick, complain that he should have held on to the ball. If a no one is open - no one is open. If as soon as Mark receives the snap, the line is blasted apart and defensive backs two and three at a time are coming from both sides - the line is blasted and Mark is in a sticky situation. In all of these scenarios, the blame goes on Mark's shoulders to people here at TGG, on espn, on the streets of NYC, etc. It's a little absurd. Mark could have been better from a standpoint of not throwing picks to defenders at the line, not fumbling the ball, not forcing throws, being more controlled when assessing what he needed to do during a play. However, the guy got destroyed behind the line - there are maybe two or three QB's who could have handled the pressure Sanchez received last year. Look at how bad Brady plays when he is getting knocked around - night and day. People are so emo and irrational about this team that it becomes humorous. I enjoy reading people's posts just to smile or laugh.
again, you're only talking about last year. if you want to say his situation last year wasn't great, then i agree. but nobody on this board thinks his situation last year was "golden." but for the first 2 years of his career, he was in a great spot.
Last year is the only year anyone is talking about. No one is complaining that Mark went to the AFCCG in his first two seasons only to lose in the 2nd half both times. People are complaining and basing their assessment of him only on his third season.
no one is saying mark had it golden and wonderful last year either. by that remark, i had to assume you meant his whole career.
^ haha Our offense stunk last year. Schotty was awful at adjusting our weaknesses (1st problem fixed with sprano ((hopefully)). The right side of the line is awful (need to fix) We need another viable running back. Running back is a greater need than wr. We need a deep threat receiver (a healthy Braylon would be a welcome sight) or we should bring in a tough kid from the draft. Holmes has to play like old school Holmes and not the selfish, "captain" Holmes. Sporano will have to motivate him to be the player he is capable of being instead of the pussy he turned into. Sanchez needs to start being more focused. He is the quarterback of our offense and must take control of the huddle. It's year 4 now. No more excuses.
The Jets Stream Mike Tannenbaum say WR Chaz Schillens' role is yet to be determined: "He could catch a 100 balls... or he could be a special teamer." about 39 mins ago
Really liked this quote. I would've been pissed if Tanny said 'We signed Chaz to be our #2 behind Holmes.' If he's gonna be this team's #2, he'll have to earn it. Otherwise he's a ST guy and down on the WR depth chart.
