Holmes is afraid of contact. He makes the beautiful highlight catch <5x a year. I watched Holmes in Pittsburgh the year before he signed with the Jets. That Holmes played ball every game and he was VERY productive.

The player we got is an arrogant (on the field) piece of shit. His production and overall team play is garbage. He is no #1 receiver now.

Edit; a big explanation for his poor production is definitely schotty. I hope we get the old school Holmes under sporano. We need a RT who can help protect Sanchez so Holmes can get some separation and be the productive player we need him to be. He has to be more committed and tougher on his blocking game as well. We need the complete package Holmes, not the attitude ridden, play when I want to play Holmes. Haha "captain". Way to stand up in the face of adversity.

I always made fun of Schilens when he was a Raider because I would always hear my Raider fan friend talk him up, and then he would always get hurt before he'd ever do anything on the field. I said I wouldn't believe he actually existed until I finally saw him play last year.

He looks the part. But will he stay on the field long enough to be able to show what he can do?

First of all, Plaxico did not "fucking suck". He proved that he was nothing more than a red zone target, but 8 TDs is certainly not sucking. As I mentioned, Braylon was better at stretching the field. Probably much better. And yes, that helped our running game. But that was two years ago at this point, and he's two years older- coming off of a disastrous season and a knee injury. You're not following my logic here. Step away from your Braylon blow-up doll for a second, and approach this situation from a logical perspective. What makes you think he's still that guy coming off of a knee injury? San Francisco certainly didn't. They signed an older WR, coming out of retirement, with major character issues.

I liked Edwards while he was here. I really did. But our passing offense was really not good even with Bray. He made a few huge plays in the playoffs/down the stretch and I will never forget that. But how can you possibly think he's the solution to our problems? HINT: San Francisco just release him and signed Randy fucking Moss. That doesn't raise a red flag to you? What's wrong with drafting a wide receiver in the first or second round and not having to skim the dregs of free agency every year??? I never said we don't need a WR to stretch the field. In fact, I've been talking on this board for months about the need to DRAFT a wide reciever who can stretch the field AND be a red zone target. Next time you decide to make a criticism so personal and biased you should probably make sure that you understand what the original poster is getting at. If you think Braylon is the answer to our offensive woes, then maybe you should be the one knitting or playing golf, smart guy.

Relax guys, no reason to make it personal.

Saying Plaxico totally sucked is a bit extreme, but he wasn't good for us. 8 touchdowns was great, and he did improve our red zone offense, but other than that, he was basically useless.

San Francisco dumped Braylon because of the knee injury and because they had no reason to keep him. He was on a 1-year deal and did nothing for them last year since he was hurt the whole time.

Agreed. 100%. I don't come on here to pick fights, I come to talk about my (our) favorite team. To say that I don't know anything about football b/c I think signing Braylon won't solve our problems... well that's just funny to me. Just to be clear, I hate Plax and am glad he's gone. Just trying to put their contributions in perspective BEFORE Braylon's knee surgery. I just don't know what's wrong with drafting a decent WR for once... it's been over ten years since we took one in the first round.

EDIT- I should have been more clear about wanting to use our first rounder on Floyd or Wright, as long as they are available and Ingram and DeCastro are not. Under the new bargaining agreement, the #16 pick last year (Ryan Kerrigan) received a contract of 4 yr/$8,720,000. If you can get Floyd for that money you do it. Especially with guys like Garcon getting 5 years/42 million in FA.

Why draft one in the first round when it is highly doubtful we have a QB who could ever get him the ball. At least if he still throws like he did last year.

Fair enough, but you could also argue that Mark has never had the weapons that he needed to succeed (and don't forget about the Schotty factor)

Still, even if Sanchez is/has been the problem, and regresses next year and we subsequently find a way to get rid of him... we'll need weapons for whoever is next in line at QB.

I agree he was cheap and has a massive amount of potential and if he stays healthy he could be great. We at least know he is fast cause Al Davis (RIP) drafted him

Braylon and Holmes for isnt giving him weapons? You can make a lot of excuses for Sanchez, as most on this board do, but saying those 2 aren't viable weapons is stupid.

Calvin Johnson had 16 TD's, three times the TD's than the next leading receiver with 6 TD's. He also has almost 40% of all receiving TD's for the lions.

    That is an outrageous disparity.

Santonio Holmes and Plaxico had 8 TD's apiece - Dustin Keller had 5 TD's.

Santonio and Plax had 31% of the TD's each, 62% together - Dustin Keller had 19%.

I'm sure if Mark had Calvin Johnson, the jets make the playoffs last year.

Who needs time in the pocket when you can float a pass as soon as you snap the ball in the general direction of Megatron?

My point being, Mark hasn't had it as golden and wonderful as some people think. He actually has to work to make plays happen, scramble to give receivers time, and use play action to get people open.

By "PS" did you mean practice squad? If so, then you'd be the second guy in this thread to not know that Schilens lost his practice squad eligibility long ago.

I believe its being active in 18 regular season games, or 3 accrued years in the NFL.

This is a great point. A good WR helps out a QB a lot, especially a superstar. Andre, Calvin, Marshall(when he tries) have the ability to compete for every pass thrown their way. They are so good at what they do that they can turn what should be an interception into a great pass/catch.
