Agreed. I had no clue that Grant would be a UFA. He will generate some interest, but as far as name recognition goes being on the saints for all this time certainly hurt a bit. 290 is great for playing 3-4 DE, the way people around here only care about getting big dlinemen without factoring things like actually being an athlete and playmaker at that size amazes me. Sure guys, lets just find some 330 lb mammoths to man all the spots on our dline, i'm sure we'll be dominant for years to come :drunk: . The man makes plays AND is strong/big enough to man the 3-4 DE position.....well at least he's big enough. Honestly, I have no clue if he's the one always fighting off of double teams, but if he is AND he put up those numbers....I want him. I'll be happy if we land him OR either big name CB.
Illinformed eh... Ellis was a proven DE in the 3-4. He played in it in 2000. Charles Grant has no experience in a 3-4 defense at any point in his career. THAT'S the difference here. Ellis is 6-5 and height helps quite a bit along the line, but more importantly he has shown he can use the right technique to play in it. Grant, at this point in his career, would be in the same situation as DRob was this year learning to play 3-4... And at the amount of money Grant would command, no thanks. How does that sound Einstein. BTW... Bryan Thomas plays OLB, he didn't play 3-4 DE this year...
Charles Grant as a JET would be fine with me. I do not think that DROB will ever be a great NT. The guy always had a history of taking plays off at UK. With us he seems OK in that regard but with his knee problem, we better have insurance for him!
