About Marty... The irony here is that it is precisely Rex's lack of positive involvement in the O that is one of the reasons he should go, yet him leaving quite likely means Marty would go, too, although as you also point out there is precedent for keeping him under a new HC. Imo the problems with O this year stem from Smith's poor play, which I lay on Idzik (and Smith himself, of course), too thin a receiving corps at first and an increasingly thin OL. Those are all on Idzik primarily, not Marty.
No doubt. Sadly, I'm more afraid of how bad the next OC could end up being than I am losing Marty. He's good but not irreplaceable. Our recent track record with OCs has been so awful, that I'm petrified of what might be on the other side of him getting let go.
You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think the Knicks have a bright future. I LOVE Melo--he's given me only my NCAA Championship ever--but as great as he is, he's old, he's getting older, he's going to break down at some point and his window is closing rapidly and he's never going to outlast Lebron or Durant or any of the younger superstars waiting to take over the mantel. This team is not getting any better next year (the FA crop sucks) and in 2 years Melo could be a shell and the rest of the roster sucks. Triangle Offenses do not win Championships--2 and 3 susperstars on one team wins championships. This incarnation of the Knicks will never win a championship--you're going to be waiting a long time for that. Phil will be dead by then. He's still listening to the wrong people and trying is what losers do. He is not building a football dynasty when he fires Rex and Idzik--he's going to try to hire the most high profile coach to grab headlines. Given how obvious and out there in the media it is that the Jets have fucked up QB after QB, I think if they grab Mariota they are going to put 1000x the amount of effort and care and planning into developing him and offensive talent around him. They'll hire 5 QB experts to get this guy where he needs to be. The fans and the media will not allow Sanchez to happen again. And are you suggesting that Mariota and Harrington are the same blank canvas to work on? And you realize that Marty only had him for 1 year, his rookie year? And that was 12 years ago? _

I don't know about Schereff's strength. I haven't watched much of him , admitttely, but from what I've seen he struggles with the bull rush, and against Maryland he was constantly destroyed by speed rushers.. I think he'll be a very good guard or right tackle, but I'm not too sure about his future at LT. Was that game an anamoly?
The thing about this league though is that there is such a fine line between sky and basement. We've seen so many teams have enormous turnarounds in one season (heck, just looking at the relatively recent history of our franchise offers some prime examples: 1997-1998 and 2005-2006). Also, I'm not yet convinced we are that far behind either Miami or Buffalo. I need to see how they finish their respective seasons. (And also, Orton is not the future in Buffalo . . . so, I don't see how they are any further than us in their quest to find a QB)
Right. The key here is, finding that right QB for the team. It doesn't matter how other positions are all loaded - if your QB sucks, your team sucks. Look at KC - I don't think Alex Smith is a world beater, but even he can make this once 2-14 team relevant. And I think there is a reason Reid grabbed Smith - he was an undervalued vet that had a lot of experience at that time, and he rarely makes mistakes that cost the game. As for the Jets, I don't think Jets can find such a luck. They would do well to raise their own QB, letting him ride the pine for a season or two - which means I am against trading the entire draft and the farm for Mariota. I also think, other than the QB spot, Jets are not that far away from competing.
Looks like Vick wants to stay for next season. Probably a good idea if he can remain healthy. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2014/11/michael_vick_wants_to_stay_with_jets.html
