BRILLIANT insight lol ...... Gailey may not be Bill Walsh, but he's WAY better than Morninweg, Sparano, and Schotty put together. That's good enough for me. Even if he's just average that would be a huge upgrade for us.
Our running game success was due to a lack of a passing game? Then when 8 guys stacked the box since they knew we weren't passing it why couldn't they slow us down?If it was obvious we were one dimensional
Can anyone who watched the cardinals this year tell me how they catered their playbook to their horrible QB situation. Might have some insight on how Bowles wants to play as well
You must not be educated - how sad, and typical, of a Jets fan. Good thing you've never changed your opinion when you acquired new facts before. Brilliant. You must be the type to hear one fact and never be open to the rest, like so many Jets fans on this board. Must also be the reason you lock your posts so no one can go through your history and show you otherwise. Oh, and the avatar is to piss people off. Guess that worked.
So when you used to constantly rip Rex, you did it as someone who didnt know all the facts? And now that you have all the facts, you've determined that Rex is a good coach. So were you just super misinformed when you were trolling Jets fans talking about Rex?
I think there's obviously things he's not good at - I've heard people say game management (although I haven't seen for myself yet) and from a far, I always felt he was a little too loose with things (comments, player comments, media access to everything, etc.). But looking back I don't blame him for the ultimate demise of the Jets. I think if the GMs continued to do their job correctly that he would have won more and would probably still be coaching the Jets today. We'll just have to see how it plays out in Buffalo. His story is still being written as far as I'm concerned. I tend to lean towards the idea that he'll be successful with good players. But of course the Bills dont win and he stinks, that opinion will go out the window and we will know for sure that Rex is all talk. If he does win here, we'll know that the last few years with the Jets weren't all of his fault. And fyi, I did not "constantly" rip Rex. I said numerous times that I hoped the Jets fired him because I thought he was a great coach and I wanted him out of the division. I know I also felt he legitimately should have been fired after this year, because I felt his style got old and the players weren't responding to him. The Jets really had no choice at this point. If he goes someplace where people buy in again (like Buffalo, or really any fresh place for that matter) it would work out better. Rex and the Jets both definitely needed a change of scenery.
When it comes to game management, Rex's confidence in his defense tends to make him very conservative, especially at the end of games. He will punt on 4th and 2 or whatever while trailing by one score with a few minutes left, explaining later on that he thought his defense could get a 3 and out. His teams also tend to get a lot of 12 men on the field penalties, and things just seemed disorganized at times. Lots of timeouts are wasted. He'd still be with the team if they'd drafted better, but after he got here the team got much worse at drafting and eventually lost so much talent that Rex couldn't compete effectively with the team anymore. Rex should do well with the Bills in 2015, because the team is already good. The 2008 Jets were a good, borderline playoff team, just like the 2014 Bills. Rex did very well with the 2009 Jets, a defense-oriented team with no QB; same situation that Buffalo will be in in 2015. Only this time, Rex is more experienced. I think the 2015 and 2016 seasons are the best window for the Bills, but after that it will get dicey unless the Bills draft pretty well or find a franchise QB. Rex is going to have a major say in the draft, if the rumors are true. He's also not subordinate to the GM, and comments by the GM seem to suggest that he accepts that Rex will have an unspecified amount of input in the draft. Maybe the Bills told Rex something like "Look, we know Idzik screwed you over, and we're not going to let that happen. If you come here, you will have a major say in the draft and our GM will go and get you the free agents you need to build the team you want." That extra control could've helped woo him away from the Falcons; I think Rex feels completely fine with the idea of winning a Super Bowl based mainly on defense; as long as he could be assured that he wouldn't be undermined by the GM again. In the drafts under Rex, we tended to skew things very heavily towards defensive players. And the few early round offensive picks were pretty much all busts (like Stephen Hill, and Vladimir Ducasse). Not all of his early round defensive picks were great. Some were great pro bowl caliber guys, like Wilkerson and Richardson; but most of his defensive first round picks have been mediocre at best (Coples, Milliner, Wilson, and Pryor). Rex inherited lots of talent and did well with it, but then he failed to develop enough replacements to keep the defense at an elite level. Since both of Rex's GMs were contract/cap guys, Rex always had significant say in the drafting process with the Jets. The other area of concern is developing a QB. He failed with a top-5 pick; although Chip Kelly also didn't turn around his career, so Sanchez probably just is what he is. Journeyman backup quality. Geno Smith doesn't look good either. And then he also drafted a very lowly rated QB prospect Taj Boyd (currently playing in a non-NFL league, I think) because his son (a sophomore WR at Clemson) recommended him as a former teammate. That was in 2014; very recent. Back in 2009 or 2010, Rex controversially wasted a draft pick on Scottie McKnight - he was a WR on Mark Sanchez's college team and the Jets could have signed him as an undrafted free agent, but Rex wanted to draft him instead to make Sanchez happy. So two times, Rex straight-up wasted late round picks. Bills fans should hope that Rex learned from those mistakes and does a better job in personnel decisions. Overall, I think this is a great hire for the Bills, and I was disappointed to see him go to a division rival.
I was so happy RR got rehired because in MHO the Bills who hired him have now eliminated themselves from SB competition so long as he remains the HC of the Bills
Rex was plenty to blame. Player development under Rex was not the best, but neither was the drafting. The team eroded when Rex got rid of many of the assistants that he started with and when Tannenbaum went for it all and put the Jets in a bad salary cap spot. But the Jets were best off when they had Bill Callahan, Mike Westhoff, Mike Pettine and a bunch of other coaches that had left the Jets over the years. Read collisions low crossers and you will see a large insight into why the 2011 Jets failed. Part was on Tannanbaum and part was on Rex. The Bills have a good defense, which will most likely remain with Rex Ryan as the coach. To be successful you will need to hope that Greg Roman is great because Sparano and Morninwheg were not.
