I'll settle for an OC that coaches an offense that is relevant to the current NFL landscape. I have to laugh about Bills fans fooling themselves about Greg Roman. Have fun with the Wildcat and Ground & Pound, fool yourselves all you want but Rex actually does dictate the offense, you'll enjoy 1950s football until your defense can't make up for it. I'd like a spread based offense with a QB that can think on his feet. Probably won't happen for a couple of years, but I'll wait.
How can you "win" with the personnel he had? It was a shade better of an offensive roster than we had in 2012.
What do you expect him to do with Geno Smith and our current OLine? The Spread offense isn't an instant fix, as the article mentioned. He will (hopefully) create an offense that is suited for our team's strengths; an offense that wins games. It'll take an infusion of more talent before we can become a Green Bay or New England. Namely, a Qb and some weapons.
Again, the Cards starter and backup both went down with injuries. Lindley is one of the worst QB's in the NFL (remember what the Jets did to him a couple of year back?), but they had no chance but to rely on him down the stretch. I'm not saying Kitchens is some great offensive mastermind, but I'm not blaming him for what transpired this season.
You know, I'm trying to be positive about this OC thing, but if this mongo ends up being our OC, there are going to be some dead kittens in my neighborhood.
Like I said...I don't blame him for what went down, but he's never shined in any of his jobs. I don't want a long-time TE coach to come in and run this offense. This offense is so bad it needs someone who is experienced and knows how to handle pieces. If he comes here he will be an abomination, and I already know it.
my ideal coaching situation awhile back was Bowles with Trestman as OC. we got Bowles, now lets go get Trestman! he's still available. i want an experienced guy with a good track record to work with our first time HC. Gailey fits that bill as well, but i believe Trestman is more innovative, and more relevant in recent times. hell no to the Cards QB coach. Don't want a first time play caller, to go with a first time HC, and first time GM. need experience calling plays, and need experience running a team...
What style of offense just won the AFC championship and is now playing for the Super Bowl? Ground and pound. What style of offense did they beat? Spread. What style of offense just won the NFC championship and is now playing for the Super Bowl? Ground and pound. What style of offense did they beat? Spread. Welcome to 2 ground and pound teams playing to see who will win the Super Bowl.
The Patriots aren't a G&P team, smart guy, they went an entire half against Baltimore without running the ball a single time, but the Colts run defense is so bad that they were able to just run the ball all day long. You're fooling yourself. Laughably.
Wow this is so horribly wrong....... the Patriots INVENTED the NFL-style spread offense and play it more than anyone.
besides Rex's teams traditionally claim they play "ground & pound" but really it's just a nice way of saying they can't do anything at all well offensively but at least running it they are less likely to turn the ball over. nobody really plays ground and pound style. The 1980s are over
I imagine that they will try to get this OC crap cleared up by the press conference tomorrow so they don't get inundated with questions about it.
Seattle won the SB with a modified WCO that incorporates modern day variations of the pistol and read-option offense. Do you have a brain in your head? does every team who likes to run the ball run a 'ground and pound' offense to you? If so you just had one with Doug Marrone..
I am counting the teams whose philosophy is to run first and pass second. The Bills did not even try to run the ball last year. Seattle is absolutely a ground and pound team. New England was on Sunday. Dallas won the NFC behind the run. San Francisco (Greg Roman) played in the last 3 NFC Championship games behind the run. Pittsburgh ran over the entire league this year. Philadelphia, New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago, San Diego all missed the playoffs with spread offenses. Running the ball first is more important than you're giving it credit for.
The bills were no.1 in rushing attempts under Marrone in 13. This year they were lower because they ran the ball a lot less once Orton took over - coincidentally they started winning games around the same time. You draw your own conclusions... Having a run first philosophy is not even close to "ground & pound" or whatever crappy outdated thing Rex always wants to run. You can have a run first philosophy AND a spread offense. Philadelphia, Pittsburgh 2014 and NE are great examples.. although NE changes up so much. I don't know why you act like running the ball & spread offenses are contradictory. One is a philosophy and the other is a style.
