That is the big part I wasn't sure about - where his contract stood. With a cap hit that size it isn't likely that he'd shake free soon. Either him or Garcia would be looking for a starting roll straight away too. Giving it a couple of seasons it may be interesting to see what happens. I don't know what Garcia's contract is set up as, but I would guess it was short term. He's going to cost a bit more to resign in the near future. My thinking was that he would leave before McNabb would. Plus he's a good bit older than McNabb too, isn't he? I think he did some time in the CFL before the NFL. It would be kinda nuts for Philly to lean toward him in my opinion, but stranger things have happened.

The argument in Philly for finding another QB is that McNabb may already have reached his peak for them. They've been winning 12 games pretty steadily for the last few years and have gotten to the NFC championship game with regularity. Invariably they fall short at some point, and whether it's fair or not McNabb gets pointed at a lot when they fail.

Note that everything I just wrote could have been written about John Elway circa 1993 or so. If I was Philly I'd recognize that McNabb is a top 5 QB and just hold him tight until things come together and they win that Super Bowl or two.

One other thing though: Andy Reid (like Dan Reeves in Denver) may have to go away before McNabb and the Eagles win a Super Bowl. Sometimes it's the coach who has peaked and not the QB.
