We shouldn't go back and forth with shoulda and coulda's. Because then you have to say if the Defense could have stopped Kenny Watson we would have beaten Cincy, and if Dyson doesn't make a complete ass of himself trying to tackle Burress that we win that game against the Giants.

I'll give Clemens his due on the McCareins pass, but for 3 quarters of that game he was awful. But I'll ignore that because it was his first ever start.

Personally, I still believe there should be a competition for the starting QB. And I definitely do not think Clemens should be given the starting position. Keep Pennington and if Clemens can't beat him out then we have our answer.

You are correct that we shouldn't use last year to gauge Clemens entirely because we DID have a terrible O-Line. The things that worry me about Clemens is completely missing wide open WR's. And I'm not even concerned about the ones down field, I'm talking about 5-10 yards away. And his pocket awareness is horrible and his pre-snap reads were terrible. Those are the things I thought he should have improved over the course of the year - even slightly - but he actually regressed. That's where my major concerns are.

If Clemens can't beat out Chad for the starting Job then our answer lies in the 2009 Draft.

I'm okay with spending a No. 2 pick on Flacco or Henne if they're available or a 5th on Ainge. I think the way they built the team - to basically win now - we need to know who our franchise QB is when the 2009 training camp starts.

If it's Clemens and we have Flacco or Henne on the bench then so be it. Then the Jets will be able to part ways with Chad in 2008 like you said above. Especially if you catch a team whose starting QB gets injured in preseason, we would then be in PRIME position to trade Chad.

If Chad wins the starting job and we have Flacco or Henne going into 2009 we then can give them a full season to learn and prepare. To me it looks to be a win-win.

i dont understand how many of us fans are saying start clemens when u saw what he did last season or should i say didnt do...chad has proven with a solid line he can make throws...when he had time to pass this season he was accurate....he can throw the long ball just like he did to coles against the bengals....if we draft mcfadden who is explosive, chad will be a starter and can take us far...
