A defensive gameplan can change faster than a QBs weaknesses and tendencies. Hypothetically, this D is improved and slighly brand new. To play them this year- we'd beat the hell out of Chad... Revis would do a pick 6 at least twice, only because he is on the Jets and Chad is not.
Cud've said "I feel I'm right but I hope Im wrong". But I hope you're wrong and I hope CP takes us to the SB. Thats all I care...
I hope we go to a SB too, but I personally want to see someone else do it. I just have no faith in Chad anymore.
Namath ain't dead yet, so lets give the guy who revolutionized the QB position some credit. The sarcasm is cute, but if its mockery, then the debate comes to a close- due to no point being made.
I know Namath aint dead...and I also know Mcfuckmyhands wouldn't hold on to the snap...All I care is we bring it home...
Chad the Bad As far as the original question goes? I agree. I doubt that Chad will be the #1 QB when preseason starts. Then again, since he's under contract, who knows what will happen. What if Clemens gets knocked out again, like he was during that Patriots game?
The whole idea of this thread is really pretty silly. The Jets would never start the season without an experienced backup at QB. It would be suicide. Especially if the only other QB you have is Clemens.
Don, you're right. And everyone who is reading this thread should go to the Daily News and read Myers column this am. Nuff said.
I fully admit to his shortcomings, but some make him out to be the anti-Christ and others make him out to be Jesus, and the simple truth he is neither. He's not as good as some make him out to be, but he is not as bad as others make him out to be either. People just want our own Tom Brady and that's not Pennington, but they don't realize that finding that elite franchise QB that can carry an entire team on his back is not as easy as they think it is. If it was so easy, there would be 32 of them in the NFL right now, and that's just not realistic.
Agree. I want my own Tom Brady on the Jets. I understand that a guy like that isn't easy to find, actually said as much in another CP thread last night. I also don't blame the FO and CS as much as some do either. They're working with what they have and trying to make the best of it. That doesn't mean the situation is a good one though. If it was, the team wouldn't be interviewing every QB in this upcoming draft. I don't buy into the "due diligence" line of thinking. I think they know they may have a problem.
We will never have our own Tom Brady unless the team commits to upgrading the talent at the QB positon and developing that talent. Chad is a fine person and was a talented QB but his arm is no longer NFL caliber and it's going to limit the team. My frustration is my growing belief that the current regime doesn't have great confidence in Clemens because if they did they would make the commitment to developing him with the first unit for all of mini Camp, TC and preseason. I'm okay with starting Pennington if the intent is to bring in a high talent early draft pick to develop if they don't believe in Clemens. If they do believe in Clemens holding him back from the work he needs is not the right approach.
Winstonbiggs, who would you draft and why? How do we build a QB that can win? I don't think you do it in a single season, and I think you need QBs playing (Chad and Kellen) who are smart, tough, and know the system backwards and forwards. This is the mentoring situation you put a new quarterback in if you want him to prosper, in my opinion. I have never been excited about a "veteran backup" -- I think you would do better having as many good QBs fighting for the right to start as possible. The CS has developed an esprit de corps on this team that is remarkable. These guys have learned how to play for each other. They are into teamwork. Mangini is instilling the idea that the team comes first, and the result will eventually be that there are several people in every position that can play that position pretty damned well. That is the objective here. Not to find an Elway, but to develop a series of QBs who reinforce each other's ability to play. With this in mind, I think drafting a good prospect (but who is it?) is perfectly in keeping with an open competition for the starting QB.
Kellen was 3-4 last year as a first time starter with no help at all. The team could have been 4-3 under Kellen if not for a dropped pass by Cotchery in the Redskin game. The best way to accomplish this is to give Kellen the reigns and let him sink or swim. If he sinks we have to get a new Qb in the draft next year and that is that. The only thing that we could get out of chad starting is another 9-7 first round playoff loss that would put us further away from a championship because we still don't have a Qb that can take us there! They Jets should have traded or Cut Chad and signed a veteran backup.
