I like Chad but damn. You had 6 years to show what you can do. The audition is over. Good luck in Miami, you are going to need it with that team.

there is ZERO hypocrisy in it. nobody is blasting Pennington for leading us to the playoffs in the past, the argument is that he is unable to do it NOW! Favre can. big difference between the two. if we make the playoffs this season with Favre, Pennington having led the Jets to the playoffs in the past has nothing to do with wether he would have this year, so there isn't even anything to compare against each other. anyone who believes so lacks any semblance of logical ability.

How can people continue to question the logic behind this trade????????? Brett Favre is a BETTER QB than Chad Pennington. I've always been a HUGE Chad supporter and have always thought he could get the job done. But in the NFL, when you have a chance to upgrade the most important position on the field, you do it. When the Brett Favre rumors first started, I said that I would do the trade, AS LONG AS, we didn't have to give up a first round draft pick. (In other words, I vehemently disagreed with people saying the trade was a "no brainer" - to me it all depended on the compensation required) Once it became clear that it would NEVER be a 1st round pick straight up (i.e. without conditional clauses - such as the one we settled for, where it's only a 1st rounder if we actually make it to the Superbowl) then the trade became obvious and arguments against it became utterly untenable. Case Closed. Saying that "the trade only makes sense if Brett can get us past the divisional round because chad would have gotten us at least that far", IN A VACUUM, makes absolutely no sense. Football, is a TEAM sport. Maybe both Qbs have the potential to lead us to the divisional round and maybe we wouldn't get past that point with either of them. BUT THERE COULD BE A MILLION DIFFERENT REASONS WHY WE DON'T WIN THE DIVISIONAL ROUND GAME THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE QUARTERBACK. (Maybe our defense sucks in the game?? Maybe we give up 3 kick-off retruns for touchdowns??? Maybe we have 8 million fumbles or Wr induced interceptions like the 98 AFC championship game in Denver???) It is absurd to boil the logic of this trade down to how far we advance in the playoffs with each QB. The POINT is that Brett Favre is a SIGNIFICANT UPGRADE over Chad Pennington (And again, I have always been a Chad supporter and have always felt that he got entirely too much hate on this board), and because we only had to give up a CONDITIONAL draft pick for him, the trade was clearly the right thing to do for the New York Jets. Case Closed.

Also, the "extra meaningless publicity" isn't so meaningless when it helps attract free agents to the Jets. Or brings in more money that allows the organization to spend more lavishly on equipment and other resources that help keep the players in the best possible condition.

Yeah the Raiders are huge rivals too. But they don't compare to the dolphins for me personally. (Also, I have always loved their uniforms and as a little kid, before I knew that they were huge rivals of the Jets, I actually rooted for them because I just thought they looked so bad ass on the field. I think some of that is still in me.)

    Agreed.

WRs don't want to play for a QB that can't throw them a deep ball.

That's actually my theory on Dolphins fans. A lot of kids were young and thinking, "Hey, there colors are cool, bright and different! Awesome!" Then, when you turn about 9, you grow out of it. That's what I always told my friend who is a Dolphin fan from Jersey. He didn't like my theory as much, but I know it's true.

Redskins is a big rivalry as far as I'm concerned. Add the fact that for the past 6 years or so the Redskins have been taking Jets players like crazy and it just elevates it for me. (Santana Moss/Coles, Chad Morton, John Hall just to name a few).

It no longer really matters, since Brett's here and we're playing against Chad in Miama on the 7th of Sep.

I am much more interested in how Brett does these next few weeks.

Particularly like the idea of him starting the next preseason game. The more 'trial-by-fire' Brett goes through with the team the better he will play come the real thing, in my opinion.

Brett's reputation for 'seat-of-the-pants' play is really about his being able to see what's going on, on the field, and take advantage of it.

The more he goes through this process with his new teammates, the more opportunities they will have together when the real games commence.

Lets be honest, the thing that was worrisome about chad was it was always health health health as an excuse, but last year he made a LOT of mental errors in curcial situations for the first time in his career

Yep and if we go to the dance for the first time in 40 years it will be worth that number 1 pick even if he retires when the season is over (which I am sure he would do)

I honestly believe Chad can be productive. I just don't believe that he'd even really please any of us.

He's the guy carrying the blame of the '02-04 teams lack of every becoming a feared team. We all want to move on for various reasons. The team never even handled him right...the contract AFTER the injuries? Seriously?

The best thing to happen to this guy since 2002 was getting released. It's a new start for him, and a new start for us.

Chad was my favorite player on the team and I really felt with the new additions to the O line he was going to have his best year since 02. The team planned for him to be the starting QB. But if you have the chance to get Favre on your team you take it. I just wish he hadn't gone to Miami. Now i can't root for the guy.

Have you forgotten that the rest of the Dolphins team is horrible? 1-15 and Pennington alone is gonna turn that around? ok

I don't know you from a hole in a wall and you may be a decent person, but I find, as a loong time Jets fan, your moniker to be very offensive also. Also, what is so exciting about a team bringing in a 39 year old QB with a deteriorating skills? Alot of the media today were probably wearing diapers when Namath won the SB. Should the Jets give Favre a #12 Jerse?

Never at any time during Chad's career with the Jets were they expected go any further than the 1st round in the play-offs, by any local beat reporter. Much less an out-of-town expert.

Chad has shown what he can do...but the supporting cast was too mediocre to follow thru. Lets give him credit for making the Jets respectable, ok?

I wonder if any of these Dolphin tools remember a guy named Dan marino. He couldn't get them a ring with a good team.
