Thats what I said. Atlanta is the perfect fit for him, he would play 10 games a year in a Dome, with a new regime, that would buy them time to rebuild that team, and get a QB at their leisure.
I still want to know on what criteria you are basing this on. How has Clemens played better than Chad? In what way? And I'm not "hanging my hat" on anything, but if we're going to discuss this let's at least get the facts right. We're kicking too many FGs with both guys because we can't run the ball in red zone. We have a handful of rushing TDs this season, one was by Chad, one by Clemens and two by the RBs in the Miami game. That leaves the rest of the year with virtually no rushing TDs, which tells you all you need to know. Furthermore, not only are we not rushing for TDs in the red zone, but we're wasting a lot downs trying. That leaves the QB--whichever one is in there--no margin for error. They have one or two shots at the end zone, no threat of the run to even use play action, and the defense knows we have to pass. Chad in his career only threw 1 pick in the red zone before this season, this year he's thrown a couple. Clemens has like 4 TDs and 10 INTs. Now I think both those stats are skewed because of our lack of running game, but I still fail to see how you can say Clemens has in any way played better than Chad.
It matters because the coaching staff has to figure out where to go from here. If they bet the farm on Clemens they better be right coming off a year like this one, otherwise the whole organization will be back to square one. If you let them compete for the job in camp, you at least have a Plan B if Clemens doesn't get it done or if he gets hurt again.
The only way Pennington is a Jet next season is if he is willing to take a pay cut and be a backup. The plan will have Clemens getting the majority of first string snaps going into camp. I'd be willing to bet on this.
I don't know. Clemens is getting the snaps now because the plan was to get him in there after we fell out of contention and that's where we still are. Mangini would be a fool to put all his eggs in one basket going into what is a pivotal third season for him and his regime. I realize people here want Chad gone, but that may not be the reality. He's only going to be a backup if Clemens is handed the job (unlikely) or beats him out in camp (50/50 at best). We'll see.
