I didn't like the way he said what he said. Maybe it was just a matter of wording. Chad had every right to go see his dad, and obviously the team isn't going to cut him for taking off. I wish Chad and his dad the best, and am very happy he is back. Regarding employment law, when you live in a state that gives employers the right to fire you for sneezing, I guess it all just comes down to how much of an a-hole your boss is.
So Chad doesn't have the right to care about his Dad just because he makes more money than Joe 6-pack? Asinine. I'd give my left nut to have my dad back for one day. It's a whole lot more fun to visit the living than the dead.
Taken from my post: Now that that's cleared up, Chad and Joe 6pack lives in very different worlds with very different consequences for the things they do. Chad can go spend time with his dad, miss a paycheck, and still be set for life without worry. For Joe 6-pack, more often than not, its a far different story. What I'm saying here is this: The rules are NOT the same for Chad Pennington as it is for Chad Nobody. These are very different worlds complete with very different circumstance we all deal with. You know that as well as I do pardner..
You miss one big point "Chad Nobody" wouldn't miss a paycheck either... There are laws against that, even in these so called "Right to work" states.
I really don't want to hijack this thread into a debate on the "Family Leave Act" however, alot of companies will give time off with pay, but it will cost you vacation or sick leave time. In other circumstances, Chad Nobody can take leave without pay and risk his living circumstances to be with his family. I don't know how Chad's contract breaks down payday to payday, but I'd bet my mortgage Chad Nobody doesn't have that same flexbility..
Well I'd consider me CHad nobody and I took most of 6 months off to be with my sick daughter... and 2 more weeks when she passed until I was ready to work... .with pay. No NFL player gets paid for training camp. I guess they do if you want to think about it, but the paychecks do not come until game weeks.
First, it sounds cold hearted. Second, it wasn't a week, and third, if you couldn't leave your job for 3 or 4 days because your Dad had a heart attack that's pretty sad.
Actually it would not be considered job abandonment in ANY US company. You have a RIGHT under the Family and Leave Medical act to take care of a family member in a situation like this.
