Pretty much everyone here has said Pennington had an average day, including you. Yet, you claim that "as always", we're overreacting. I just don't see what possessed you to make that unjustified assumption, unless you were just taking a shot at Pro-Chad fans. If I'm wrong, then I'm sorry, but I still don't find your post any less weird.
The overreaction was calling out the Chad haters.. It wasn't necessary. If the object of this thread was to get folks into Chad bashing, no one took the bait so far. I really hope every win we get for the rest of this season doesn't turn into some referendum on Chad Pennington.
Yes Pennington was average today. But your statement that he is playing for his job and that Clemens will play at all this year is so far off base I don't know where to start. First, Pennington was better than average on a horrible weather day against one of the best defenses in the NFL and against a team that has the best home record in the NFL since 2001. Second, he was better than the QB many consider to be the best in the NFL. Third, he did today what many said he can't do - beat a good team on the road. Fourth, he made one mistake. Plus he threw a long pass to Coles that should have been a TD. Fifth, the Jets are playing for a playoff spot right now and Pennington is a major part of their 5-4 record. With the teams remaining on the schedule, there is no way in the world Pennington gets benched for a rookie. Let me ask you this. Brady has now been bad for two weeks in a row. Is he playing for his job?????? Pennington surely has not been lighting it up the past few weeks, but he is as secure in the starting spot as almost any QB in the NFL. I thought the goal was to win. Did you really expect the Jets to be 5-4 at this point?
I posted about the Chad haters. I don't have a problem with people criticizing Pennington or even saying that he sucks. What I do have a problem with is the failure of these Chad haters to concede that he gives us the best chance to win right now, and that calls for Clemens are nothing more than vacuous bluster and inane rhetoric. Again, I never said he played a great game. I said he had a nice game, meaning, good enough for us to win. This is not directed at you, Cman, BTW. It is just a general observation about the board. Keep in mind, they were playing in the rain and mud. I thought Chad played a very nice game, and did a nice job of taking the team down the field and chewing up the clock.
Those floaters into the flats are going to start taking it's toll on my health, Chad! Nah, but seriously... Decent game. Not too great and not mistake free either, but had some key first downs and 'managed' to get the W.
I was going to start a thread just for this purpose - but it would more than likely wind up being too flammatory: I would like to eat some crow  I took part in a discussion saying that if we didn't perform well against the Pats and Bears(because of Pennington's shortcomings) then we should bench him in favor of Clemens. Penny did well considering all factors involved(on the road, poor weather and a tough D). Not great - but well. He did what I was looking for - which was to move the ball and score points. This is a QB's most important job and Chad performed with that being the criteria. What makes it even more intriguing - is the overall performance of the entire team. We played like a team that is worthy of respect. If we can perform like this on a consistant basis(especially in the trenches) I would even be willing to do what I said I wouldn't this season - raise my expectations! It's still too early to legitimately think about the playoffs - but it's also alot later than when I thought we would all be mentioning draft position.
