It would be nice if you are right here, but I am skeptical. I think Idzik is committed to sticking with Smith, but hope I am wrong.
The Jets rushing attack last year was sixth in the league. The problems on O were in the passing game. The rushing attack could not overcome those problems.
Thanks. Saved me the trouble on the bolded part. As for Tanny, I agree it was not the overall approach that was a problem so much as the execution of it. It was really individual talent and roster decisions that were the problem with him, like letting Kendall go when they had no Plan B, trading up for Sanchez who did not deliver, the Tebow debacle and worst of all imo the Sanchez extension. Those are pretty much beyond debate, but I would also add the way the team handled negotiations with Revis. I agree Revis's people were not above board, and arguably hurt his own position long term. But there were also problems on the FO's side of those dealings. Talent evaluation remains an issue whether you adhere to Tanny's strategy or to Idzik's. On that measure the jury imo is still out on Idzik.
I posted our team cap numbers by player a few weeks ago...then entire core of our team adds up to less than $15M/yr due to building through the draft. The most recognizable names on our team (Geno, Pryor, Milliner, MoWilk, Richardson, Kerley, Snacks, on and on) make a few mill a yr on avg. Most make less than a mill. That's unheard of and won't last long. This is a rare opportunity to stash cash and pay it forward to keep our team together.
But half those guys aren't even worth thinking about at this point. Geno Smith could easily be out of the league in 2 years for all we know! and he's locked up until 2017 either way. Pryor is a damn rookie yet to play an NFL game! This is silliness.
Yep exactly. Our entire roster is going to need to be resigned with the next couple years. Tannenbaum had a veteran team that could afford to back load huge contracts to sacrifice the future for a chance to make a run. This doesn't make sense to do when you have one of the younger rosters in the league. It's also silly to do before you have a franchise quarterback in place. Because in all reality teams rarely win in the playoffs without a franchise guy.
I feel like it would be nice to have a ranging safety that could shift outside the hashmarks and cover a receiver or TE in jam coverage. I also feel that if the Jets have to rely on Allen to play CB for a lengthy period, the defense is going to give up 1000 TDs in the first 8 games.
Think as long as he doesn't give up a ton of big plays, it's a win in my book. The reality is not a lot of pure play CBs in this league can contain Green, so hard to expect Allen in his first shot to do it. That said, if he can keep him from racking up any long plays, we may have uncovered a diamond in the rough for our CB quandary.
True, but it was the 3 and outs that were killers. The pass helps propagate the drive, which helps propagate runs...and so on. T.O.P. was horrible for the jets last year.
(In Mike Tannenbaem Voice)We belive Antonio has the skills to be a starting nfl defensive back, its a process
Time of possession and 3 and outs were terrible last year. It's really underrated to at least get a first down on a drive and keep the defense on the sideline for 4 minutes rather than 2 even if you do end up putting the ball away. Especially with our atrocious punting situation.
