Kicker Blair Walsh, a solid performer for four seasons until missing a chip shot that would have vaulted the Vikings past the Seahawks in the 2015 playoffs, will be getting another chance to show what he can do. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Walsh will audition for the Jets. The Jets are exploring their options due to the struggles of Chandler Catanzaro, who missed two extra points in the team’s preseason opener. Walsh stayed with Minnesota into the 2016 season, but that postseason miss gave him a case of the yips; he missed eight kicks in nine games before getting the boot. Walsh kicked for the Seahawks in 2017 and was out of football last season. For his career, Walsh has made 82.4 percent of his field goals, but only 73.3 percent in 2016 and 2017 combined. Per Mehta, the Jets will also work out Chris Blewitt, who has spent time over the last two years with the Steelers and Bears but who has never been on a regular-season roster.
Walsh doesn't seem like much of an upgrade. Blewitt I don't know anything about other than he never played in an NFL GAME. There has got to be more options out there, but at least we recognize & are acting on the problem at kicker.
Have to go with Blewitt on this one. I mean Walsh and Catanzaro already blew it! Thank you. I'll be here all week.
Somehow I don't like the sound of a kicker named Blewitt.....sounds to much like BLEW IT. But hay whats in a name. As long as we don't here Blewitt BLEW IT during the game, I'll kick the tires on the guy. But I think there are better kickers out there.
I'm a little shocked and disappointed that these are the kickers that Douglas is bringing in, but I'm not gonna panic. I'm gonna trust that Douglas has this. He's getting tested early thanks to Mac. I know that Douglas wasn't here when Ross Martin was, but I'd like to see Martin get another shot. I'd bring in Matt Bryant also. The last three seasons, he has hit 91.9, 87.2 and 95.2 percent of his FGs He may not have a leg that can kickoff into the EZ any more, but they need a reliable kicker. IMO that is more important than kicking the ball into the EZ. Sebastian Janikowski is still out there. He hit a 56 yard FG last season. His accuracy isn't great (80.8, 82.9, and 81.5 percent the last 3 seasons), but he has plenty of leg. Kai Forbath is still out there. The last 3 seasons he hit 100, 84.2 and 80 (4 of 5) percent of his FGs and hit 100 percent of PATs last season.
Too funny. Just what we need to hear, I guy named Blewitt, and a "Yip-Kicker" I bet Catanazaro prevails.
He' not worth shit if he can't handle or want to be here in the tristate. Its not like we sprung the extra cash for a dome for our 1.5b air conditioner. Its a well known fact that some players just can't handle being in this area and perform better in smaller markets. Maybe Cat is really a Kitten after all..
Letting Myers go was monumentally stupid. The Jets had 3 pro bowlers last year and they just let 2 of them walk for nothing.
Shit. https://clutchpoints.com/bears-rumo...go-will-trade-for-ravens-kicker-kaare-vedvik/ ...the New York Jets believe Chicago will trade for Baltimore Ravens’ kicker Kaare Vedvik per Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News. Similar to the Bears, the Jets are also in the market for a kicker.
I doubt his source, aka the janitor, actually knows the internal thought process of the Jets nor the Bears. Anyway, Jets would be better off hoping he gets cut and use their high waiver spot to get him.
