Anyone who's taken up golf might agree with this....FG kicking is almost like swinging a club. Like Tony (above) said, it's all mental. In golf, a good drive feels great, but the next drive can feel the same but the ball has a mind of it's own. It's such a tiny tiny tiny bit of adjustment at the tip of your toe determines where the ball ends up 50 yards away. Same as driving a golf ball....the tiniest change at the club face makes a huge difference. MAYBE missing the 2 extra points will somehow tweek something in his brain and he will be fantastic the rest of the season. Problem is, no body knows. Most likely he will get competition in TC and end up getting cut. I'd like to see how he does further into TC. We all know he has the muscle ability to kick well. Just needs to get his brain right.
I can understand Mac not wanting to commit to Jason Myers, especially when he didn't have all that large body of work (and was kind of an iffy kicker up until last year) but a Pro Bowl yea is still a Pro Bowl year. 33/36 in NY is impressive Though Catanzaro had a great year with us...bitched about the cold, sucked last year...now he's back. He's an unreliable flake You just can't tell one year to another it seams. But the writing is on the wall with Catanzaro. Two easy XP misses. A bad camp. Time to cut ties Bryant was 20/21 last season. Still has a big leg (hit from 57) he can still do it for one final year at 44 years old for us. If not him...we're screwed Kicking matters.Look at what it cost the Bears last year. The Browns had their early season wrecked by Zane Gonzalez
The backup kicker for the Ravens, Norwegian Kaare Vedvik, hit on 26, 29, 45 and 55 last night. Probably worth a good look and someone who should shake loose since the Ravens will use Justin Tucker.
I'm tired of seeing this take. A pro bowl kicker wanted to get paid like he's been the best kicker in the league for 5 years when his best season was the textbook definition of outlier.
Came to post this. Would cost Douglas a pick but the Ravens aren’t letting Tucker go. Vedvik has to be the guy.
I have a feeling that if we go after Vedvik, the Bears would be our main competition. The Bears alternated 2 different kickers last night and as of now even those two would be a better option than Catanzaro. The unfortunate thing is that the Jets might have given guaranteed money to Catanzaro which will give him some more chances to keep kicking.
He also made a 43 yarder and missed a 56 yarder, but in comparison that shank point after attempt by Catanzaro was just horrible. I'm leaning towards thinking it's something mental with this guy- between his whining about the cold and his crappy camp so far his heart isn't into it- he just doesn't want to kick at Metlife.
I don’t know why we’d surrender a pick for a kicker when we can simply sign Matt Bryant who wants to play.
I'm less worried about kicker unless Douglas really thinks we can live with Cat. He's terrible. But some halfway decent kickers will shake loose closer to the season.
Not true. Myers got a contract making him the 11th highest paid kicker. https://overthecap.com/player/jason-myers/4628/ it was a mistake to let him go. Catanzaro is 18th by the way, minuscule savings
