A lot of players aren't given first-round grades based on scheme or need. Pretty sure the Colts or Vikings don't have any Round 1 grades out to QBs, for example. More generally, 4-3 vs 3-4 defense teams will evaluate OLB & DE prospects differently. That said, you are correct in that this is not viewed as an especially talented draft class.

We will absolutely consider taking a Pass-rushing OLB at #6. In fact, I'd guess it's as likely than a WR, and certainly more likely than RB. I think Mariota is the right way to go long-term, as Fitzpatrick is both a) 32 and b) at best an average NFL starter.

Defenses are built synergistically, and as of this moment the final piece of our jigsaw puzzle defensively is a true pass-rusher. We've got a great young defensive line and FA resulted in a massive overhaul of the secondary. Pass rushers are a premium position in the NFL generally and this is a very talented class for them. We've been able to generate some pressure with 3-man fronts simply because we have a pair of beastly 3-4 DE's, but 3-4 DE's still usually have unspectacular sack numbers, even when they generate pressure - add in a top-notch speed rusher on the outside though, and all of a sudden the entire defensive front gets better at getting to the QB.

If the Jets are able to get 2 first round picks this year from the Browns, then I would definitely be open to trading down. This would allow the Jets to target one of the top OL and still get a talented WR, OLB, or maybe RB.

If we stay at six, is either QB, OLB or WR.
If we trade down the options more likely be OL, iLB, WR or RB

On today's show he still had the Browns with the 20th pick. So I'm assuming this years 12, and next years 1st? Not that it matters, I just figured I'd share.

If the Jets take an offensive player it won't be a surprise but that could just mean that they have certain offensive players graded higher and it is not proof that they weren't willing to draft a D player at 6. If the Jets draft any of the RBs available this year in the first round it is proof that they need to get their fucking heads checked.

I say you take the two picks and throw Manziel in. We need as much young talent as we can stockpile. I know Manziel has his concerns, but it really wouldn't cost us anything to throw him into our QB competition and see if he can give us something. Plus we'd have two first round picks. Cleveland, if they draft Mariota, is not gonna want that distraction.

Will Manziel be out of the rehab by draft day? I'd rather play Geno than bail out Mike Pettine. Cleveland's not making that trade anyway

If they wanted Mariota, they would make the trade. Why would they hold onto Manziel?

I think I'd rather just use our pick than trade down. While it would be awesome to trade down and maybe still get a top OLB & OT or whatever I think that at 6th we are guaranteed to get one of Mariota, Cooper, White or any of the top pass rushing OLB. All three of those help at major areas of need.

I would take the 12 this year and a 1st next year Maybe they throw in a mid round this year too. Give us more ammo in case there is a qb they like next year

A deal like that makes sense for both teams. Cleveland needs a QB real bad.. they can afford to go through the growing pains with Mariotto I dont think the Jets want to start from scratch. Give Geno some weapons and some protection and I think he will be OK.
Getting the 12 , a number one next year and possibly a third or second this year would be a deal too good to pass up. Get best OL(Schreff) with 12, then the best RB with second round pick (Tevin Coleman). Then go best available. Casserly also was part of hiring Mac so he may be on to something.

Or maybe Casserly gave an off the mark prediction for the Jets because he didn't want to give the public info on the Jets draft strategy. He certainly heard what Macagnan's opinion of the draft and his strategy is. Any sharing of that opinion to the public would be a breach of confidence.

Not sure how true or serious the reports of Brees being available are, but if we trade back with Cleveland for picks 12 & 19, I would offer both of those plus next year's first for Brees, and then grab OL and a RB the rest of the draft. Not sure what the cap looks like, we may have to cut someone to make it fit in safely, but it would be worth it to finally have a QB.
