The thing is all we need is a number 1. Mims is a clear #2 and Crowder is a very serviceable slot WR. Not sure what else we need to target but I doubt Robinson comes to an up and comer. We wither need to take a flyer on a round 2 WR or trade up if a guy like Devonta Smith or Jaylen Waddle fall. Otherwise, guys like Corey Davis and Perriman will need to be the guy unless we trade a future 1 mid season forr a disgruntled WR
Godwin, Golladay, Marvin Jones, Will Fuller, and Allen Robinson... Huge no thank you on JuJu. I wonder if the thought of playing with a Trevor Lawrence would be enticing enough for A Rob to come here.
NO! Tired of the Former 1st round trash of another team. We need a proven commodity at WR and will have to pony up to do so. Robinson will likely want to play for a contender (Played for the Jags, Bears) no way he comes to the JETS. NO to Ju-Ju, we have a slot WR. I love the idea of Kenny Galladay paired with Mims and Crowder.
I like Fuller but I wouldn't be too interested after he gets suspended 6 games for juicing in a contract year when he finally puts together a good season and stays healthy. I think Godwin is really the best fit. He can work the chains, and he is deadly deep down the seams in the slot. Crowder is our slot guy but we've only watched him in Gase's offense who pigeonholes him into exclusively working out of the slot. NFL offenses are versatile. Arians moved Godwin all over the field last year. Crowder can work in different places, it's just that we don't see it because we have a dope for a head coach. He's burned some defensive backs on deep outs this year. Golladay is an absolute stud but I think he's in a similar mold as Mims and is less of a chains mover. He mostly works down the field, which is necessary, but this team is going to badly need a receiver who can consistently win in the 7-18 yard range and beat zone coverages. Marvin Jones is a bit too old for a rebuilding team but if he wants to come here for a couple years and be a veteran presence I'd like it. I imagine he goes ring chasing. He's an underrated receiver who can do everything that's asked of him.
If we get a coach that is respected in the league, and TL, we should be able to entice a damned good WR like AR. I also think people are clearly underestimating Mims as a "clear" #2. We further need to draft another WR with a high pick. Perriman is good insurance if we can keep him. Give me an OL line the Bills, and TL with a premier coach and is a hell of a start.
Robinson or Godwin if they're willing to sign with us. But, we must develop a WR or two who can grow with the new QB. Mims might be one of them.
Are they going to have the cap space to offer him a fair contract? Their cap liabilities are $209,239,219. That puts them $21,009,219 over the projected cap. Potential FAs are Smith-Schuster, Villanueva (starting LT), James Conner (starting RB), Matt Feiler (starting LG), Jerald Hawkings (backup RT), Trey Edmunds (backup FB), Bud Dupree (starting OLB), Tyson Alualu (starting NT), Robert Spillane (starting LILB), Mike Hilton and Cameron Sutton (both of their Nickel CBs), Avery Williamson (backup RILB), Sean Davis (backup SS and FS), Olasunkanmi Aeniyi (backup LOLB), Jayrone Elliott (a backup ROLB), and Jordan Berry (Punter). That's 4 offensive starters and a couple of backups, and 3 defensive starters and 6 backups, and their punter. That's a lot of key players to have to re-sign. And they already have to cut players or re-work contracts just to get under the cap. I truly don't think they will be able to re-sign Ju-Ju.
I disagree that Mims is a clear #2. I think he could easily develop into a #1 WR. We can't afford to trade up. We have too many holes, and fans need to stop thinking about trading up. Great GMs don't do that, except on rare occasions, nor should they. That is NOT the way to build a team. I can't see Douglas trading a #1 for a disgruntled WR, either. He's seeking to build the culture here, so he's not going to bring in a disgruntled player, especially after Adams and Bell this year. Get real. I think the chances of our getting a good WR prospect in the 1st or 2nd round aren't very good. Terrace Marshall, Jr. is the only one I think who could be there at one of those spots, and it may be too high to take him. If Douglas likes him, maybe he trades down a little in the 2nd (depending upon where Marshall is rated), but Douglas may have to take him at Seattle's pick to get him. Clearly, the best option for Douglas and the Jets to get Lawrence or Fields some immediate help is to sign one of Robinson, Godwin, Golladay or Smith-Schuster.
steelers won't resign juju. they don't pay WRs. johnson and claypool are beasting for them and they don't have cap room. juju is for sure a FA. I'd rather get dupree from pitt though.
i'm looking at the boards and actually think we should trade back with the seattle pick. and use it to get another 2nd or 3rd (depending how far we trade back)
It would not surprise me at all if Douglas does that, but if one of Pat Freirmuth, Jaylon Waddle, Creed Humphrey, or Terrace Marshall, Jr. (depending upon where he is rated) is sitting there, I hope that he won't. I hope that he would take one of those players.
Agreed. I've been taking a look at some mocks and what not and we'll still be able to get very good players if we trade back from 25-28 range to 35-40 and pickup another premium second or third rounder.
I doubt Terence Marshall or Waddle make it out of the first round. If Waddle gets healthy for the combine (unlikely though) he's going to rule the entire thing. Marshall is good but similar to Mims in being a bit raw.
Why a no thank you on JuJu? I say a huge NO to Fuller, he can't stay healthy, and Marvin Jones is 30 already, so I would only have interest in him for a year or two, and even then would want Douglas to draft a WR high to develop behind him. He's had his share of injury issues too. He would only be a last resort for me.
You paying Dupree off a torn acl? and JuJu would be a nice get, I'm not sure he's a surefire #1 type but he's nice. ARob and Godwin I'd like though.
Look at JuJu's lack of production and distractions off the field. He's not locked in. He ascended into stardom his first year and took it and went around doing dumb things on social media and watched his production fall off a cliff. Pittsburgh can't run the same type of offense they always have in part because he's not the top target that his predecessors have been (Sanders, Brown, Wallace, Ward, etc.). They run basically an air raid and spread the ball out because they lack a true go to guy. He's a nice player. I just wouldn't want someone who makes a TikTok video on the opposing teams logo before every game when I'm trying to build a culture that doesn't exist.
I'd go with what we have, sign a cheaper option, and get the stud Edge in the 2022 draft, which is looking like a strong class for the position.
I believe they will sign the LT, RB, LG and NT. Everyone else they will let go into FA. Pitt always puts money into oline, LB, they always seem to find WR in the draft so it wouldn’t surprise me if they drafted another good receiver to replace Juju. Dupree's jury might prevent them from re-signing him.
