Lets get real here. Drafting a QB in the first round will not work with the lack of playmakers on the offense. You cannot waste the talent on the defense which is a few players away from being excellent, while still very good. We need to sign a QB with a 3 to 5 year window and try again to draft a franchise QB. I would love to see Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson and Andy Dalton QB this team with lack of weapons. Then again, I would like to see what Geno could do on those teams.
Not a lot of things could negate my passion for the Jets, but drafting Winston with an early pick might be one of them. It's one thing if a guy gets busted for PED's, or weed, or even shoplifting crab legs would be forgivable if it's a one time thing, but something as heinous as a rape accusation should be an immediate DQ from any respectable teams draft board. I'd much rather take a chance on a guy like Mariota/Cook/Mannion/Hundley. If we draft high enough, we may be able to land Cooper and our QB in the first two rounds. Think the Bengals drafting Green, then Dalton
As has been discussed, ad nauseam, in this thread, there's a remarkable group of free agent WR's that we have more than enough cap space to lure.
I would love to see Joe Montana, Dan Marino and Johnny Unitas on this team and see Geno on the 1960s Green Bay Packers. Am I playing right? _
Not quite. Different era. Different brand of football. All I am saying is Geno does not have a #1 WR or #1 RB. I am not exusing all of his bad plays. Regarding the cap space, free agents must want to come here and we are not going to win a SB right away, we are going through a rebuild. We have had to get rid of bad contracts (Sanchez, Holmes) and I stated in a previous post, I think that we are going to do what Tampa did. Sign some big name Free agents and keep core players.
