Great link: Here is what I see: Wilkerson needs to be extended, locking up him and extending Cromartie are our top priorities. Cromartie due to receive $14MM in the last year of his deal will be extended and the his cap value for next year will be in the $7-9MM range. Mangold has the perfect contract, he is locked up for a few years and is worth every penny. Harris is overpaid this year at $10MM but next year he drops to $7MM (only save $5MM if we cut him) so his job is safe. Brick is overpaid for what he is giving us on the field. I am not saying we cut the guy but if he does not play better or take a pay cut eventually push will come to shove. Holmes is nowhere near his cap value, if he does not take a pay cut he is gone. Sanchez would have to take a huge paycut and even then we might not keep him. Everyone else comes pretty cheap. Extending them or cutting them only happens based upon their play on the field, not their cap value.
Ed reed looks like the texans could release him at the end of the year...would love if he came to play for Rex again assuming Rex remains coach
Not a genius when it comes to cap space and projecting draft picks, but I like the way the 49ers do it. Horde draft picks, pick for best available talent, and sign cheap journeyman free agents. I think the goal isn't to clear as much cap space and then blow it, but to always keep a good level in case you want to bring in pricey replacements or upgrade a position.
