Hahahaha you make it sound so easy. There are 4 surefire QBs in the NFL right now, Brady, Brees, P. Manning, Rodgers. The Pats and Saints lucked into theirs, the Packers had a unique situation, and Peyton was what you described, draft, play, watch.
He kind of did. He played a similar length of game that Geno did this time. Except Geno got hurt last time so he couldn't play next. Sanchez was available so they played him. Clearly Rex didn't think even with Geno's poor play the QB comp was wrapped up
L.T said it looked as if Sanchez didnt want to be out there and that he looked pissed (shocking) when called upon to play instead of Simms. Rust can be to blame for the snap but it did hit him in the hands. Though that wasnt even close to proving he should be benched because of it. Of course, in my opinion.
Having Sanchez in with the 3 rd stringers was a very bad move,,,that was McElroy and Simms time,,,,,,,,,,the way he handled the press conference = very bad. This was only a meaningless preseason game in 2 weeks the game time decisions and post game questions get tougher,,especially after real losses not meaningless wins. I like both Rex and Mark but if not for the contract Sanchez would be gone and I said it before, when we cleaned house Rex should have gone also . Great defensive mind and def coordinator but as a HC he makes very bad in game decisions .I hope the Sanchez MRI shows nothing serious but it did not look good.
Since we are losers there is zero, nada, nil NO ENJOYMENT at least not for me. Why can U not understand that since winning is not the only thing it is everything ala Vince Lombardi? You are just attempting to spin it around so it does not look so bad for the NYJ fans IMHO.
You're missing my point. There's a lot more than 4 high level QB's in the NFL right now. You also have Eli, Ben, Luck, RG3, Wilson, Matt Ryan, Kaepernick. That's 11 teams who don't have to worry about their QB or offenses. My point is the Jets, their draft team and their scouting dept need to stop getting cute on draft day. What is the biggest weakness on this team by far? QB. Why? Because it's by far the most important position on the field. And the Jets have one of the worst in the league at this position. If the Jets ever get it right and draft a franchise QB then the rest of the roster will start to fall in place. Do you really think any of the other 31 teams in the league are worried about the Jets D as some here have proclaimed them to be this dynamic force? No and they're not as good as some here make them out to be. The longer this team neglects finding a real QB the longer this franchise will suck. Football and Bridgewater both solve that. Noone's saying either guy is perfect. However they can both be high level NFL QB's like the 11 that I mentioned above.
Yeah like he said you make it suound so easy. I think you should be gm. Just pick a frachise qb end of story. The rest of the team will fall into place? Bahahha
Wouldn't you want to put geno in the best position to succeed though? A season is 17 games. 2 games in a 4 game span against a potentially decent team and on the road against a very good team and having to put points on the board against one of best qb's ever is a tough load for any qb let alone a rookie who hasn't stood out so far this preseason. I'd rather him have almost a week and a half to prepare for a winnable home game in week 3 and a manageable game in week 4 and build some type of confidence in those games to build on rather then breaking him apart in week 1 with a short week to prepare for week 2. Sanchez (if healthy) is getting paid alot of money. Might as well let him earn it and get ripped apart early and if he were to prove people wrong then that's a win and an unexpected suprise. But whoever the qb is for now on, be it geno, a rookie in 2014 or a free agent, I want to see them developed and put in situations to progress rather then in shitty situations.
Another clueless poster who adds nothing of substance. This is way too far above your pay grade. You, like most posters on here, are caught in the weeds and can't see the ocean. Since you're so quick to critique and offer nothing, what's your plan for the Jets offensive woes and horrific QB personnel?
With the exception of vinny in 98, half a season of Favre in 08 and brief stretches where Pennington was 100% healthy, the qb position has been a weakness for the most part for decades now. This organization needs to learn from past fuck ups, and bad decisions and learn how to develop a qb correctly and put them in a position where progress and improvement should happen. If they don't learn from past fuck ups, the next 1st round pick qb they draft is just going to be déjà vu all over again. He may not be as bad as Sanchez but he won't play to his full potential unless the organization learns how to develop a qb for the long term.
Look, with Sanchez in with the new OC, the offense looked serviceable alright. TDs were finally being scored and WRs were finally creating separation. Also Mark was finally throwing effective screens and hitting WRs in stride. (yes the pick 6 was ugly. The RZ one I disagree and cant put all on Mark, discussed this too death already). Before the season I thought the JETS would win no more than 4 games. But seeing how much the O 1s looked improved, be it in the preseason games, I thought the Jets would at least go 8-8. Now with Mark down, it looks like we might win just 4 games in my opinion or less if the defense doesnt find its hurry up offense cure. Geno with the 1s did not look serviceable. He looked as Rex would say, brutal. If it wasnt for the Giants helping him on the TD drive, I dont know if he would of thrown a TD pass. He also could of had 6 TURNOVERS last night (one over thrown to Powell in the middle and another dropped by a Giant CB(?) on the sidelines). The belief in the media and a huge chunk of this forums always thought it was close in that Geno was magically the clear starter. Last not proved he isnt and that hype train needs to be put to rest because this place so far after last nights game is the only place im currently still seeing the "bu...bu..but Geno is teh betaz" nonsense.
Geno has started one game in his whole career. Sanchez has started 60+. You can't make a fair QB assessment off of one small piece of work. Geno needs more snaps before a fair evaluation can be made. Furthermore Sanchez is broken. Once the Jets cut him after this season he'll be lucky to get picked up as a backup by any of the other 31 teams in the league. Fact. Geno made some good throws last night. He also had 3 INT's and a safety. Bad night for him. Sanchez has made a career out of bad games. You need to give the rookie more snaps before saying Sanchez is better as that's not accurate. They are even as of now. Based on that I give the nod to the rookie as this season is a learning experience for him cuz this team's not going anywhere.
It's official. I cant believe im saying this but : Off with Rex's head. It looks as if Sanchez just played his last snap as a Jets QB. Cant believe this is how it ends for the kid.
Did I miss your substance? Why would I reply to to your ignorance with substance? My reply would probably start with you naming 4 qbs in those 11 that are pretty much second year qbs. Where was sanchez his second year? Clown Second you name Eli, how was Eli his first 5 years? Clown Then you name Brady in there? Along with kap he was a unreal draft pick so your just draft a franchise qb message making it sound so easy is just dumb. 2 more of your 11 "franchise qbs" Clown Pay grade? Are you fn serious buddy? Who are you Scott pioli? clown You are doing nothing but wahhhhing all over your computer screen telling people they cant see through the weeds. You fail to realize The facts because your hate for Sanchez is just stupid along with many other jets fans. Grass is always greener on the other side right? Clown Do me a favor and include some substance in your messages if you want substance back.
Personally I'm on the fence right now. I see so much potential and simultaneously so many distractions and inconsistencies and never-ending issues. I didn't think this previously, but I'm starting to warm to the fact that this actually is a make or break year for Rex. It would sort of be a shame though to be changing things around on Geno Smith right off the bat. It would be more beneficial to him to get to work with Mornhinweg for a couple of years rather than having to get another new (probably worse as well) coordinator one year into his career.
So you are telling me when we beat the Pats in Foxboro you didn't smile, celebrate, or feel happy? You just watched the game and said ok, onto the next one? I don't buy that. You didn't know we were losers after that game, we were winners. I don't buy it, the Jets path the last years could be much more frustrating and worse. I said 4 surefire QBs, there are only 4. Every other QB you aren't sure what you are getting. Eli has been inconsistent his whole career and can look like Tom Brady one quarter and Mark Sanchez the next. Ben hasn't played a full season since 09 and has played banged up a lot of the previous years. Luck, RGIII, Wilson, Kap are all young QBs who had a great year. They played at a high level but RGIII is coming off an injury, Luck had a favorable (read statistically lucky year). Way to early to say these teams are set, the have promise though. Matt Ryan I missed. I could include him, Falcons are set. So 5 surefire QBs in the league. The rest are not established or stuck in our situation. At least half the league is in our situation. It's not easy, you need to get lucky too. The one year Peyton Manning gets hurt his whole career, is the year the Colts suck and there is the "next Peyton Manning" in the draft. Sometmes you just luck into it.
Oh and how does matt Ryan do in the playoffs....another great pick for a sure fire qb right? Look at everyone's entire body of work please. Please stop hating on guys who play for your team without giving the same assessment to the rest of the league. There are honestly 6 proven surefire qbs in this league. Brady, manning, brees, Rodgers, Eli, big Ben Brady unreal pick Manning went 1 you got me there Rodgers fell in the draft sat behind a hof for a few years and is now a stud Braes got booted out of sd, he was int prone at one point of his career and reall still is. Eli took 6 years to develope into a super bowl qb. Even still has his issues. He has gone a few nice runs in the playoffs Big Ben even he still struggles with shitty oc. He was also I believe the 3rd qb taken that year. Not a sure thing in my book.
Ok. let's talk about this. The first screen pass that Mark Sanchez attempted in the Marty Mornhinweg WCO era was caught by the wrong team and taken back for 6. He threw a bunch of other screen attempts in the next few games and was repeatedly miserable, including a couple more near picks, several inaccurate throws and a couple of deflections. Mark Sanchez no-way no-how was throwing effective screens this pre-season. Did he complete a few screen passes? Sure, start the parade! The screen pass is like an 80-85% completion pass. The receiver is almost always open, because he's catching the ball behind his blockers not in the open field. The play is like an almost auto-complete and then the question is whether or not the receiver can make yards after the catch. Now as to hitting receivers in stride. Are you kidding me? Sanchez was just as wild in the catch box this pre-season as he has always been. He wasn't putting the ball on a dime and giving his receivers the best possible opportunity to advance with it. Did he do this once or twice in games? Sure. A good NFL QB does this on most of his throws, not now and then when the stars align. You want to know part of the reason that the Jets have had such difficulty developing receivers in the Sanchez era? Because those receivers never know what's coming at them. They can't get in a comfort zone because the guy throwing to them is so erratic that he puts them on edge all the time. Remember when Cotchery went through that period where he just kept getting hit and getting hurt and he started missing games? The location of the balls he was catching definitely had something to do with that. The guy was getting pounded on a regular basis because he had no comfort zone in which to catch the ball and he couldn't protect himself well after the catch. Now and then a ball would be perfectly thrown and Cotch would take it 58 yards after the catch. Far more often a ball would be a bit high stretching him out or too low forcing him to put his head down as he caught the ball or just freaking thrown right into a defender or two forcing him to fight for the ball or take a wicked hit after the fact. Location is a key thing for a QB and WR. If the ball is always where you can handle it then things are good because you can make all the appropriate corrections and make the best of the reception. if the ball is in a 2 meter wide catch radius and you never know where it is going to be, well then you are not in a comfort zone or able to get there and things happen to you after the catch instead of you making things happen to the other team.
