The only problem with that stat is that offensive turnovers and pick / fumble 6s are factored into the points allowed stat. When you constantly turn the ball over and give their offense short field situations, you are going to see a high ranking in yards and a low ranking in points.
I'll never understand when people use the saying "Rex came in and won with Mangini's players" negatively. Is that supposed to be a bad thing? Am I missing something here? That is the coaches job, no?
With Mangini as HC, Jets defense was pedestrian at best. Ryan churned out #1 defense with virtually the same players next year. So Ryan sucks. Brilliant logic, I tell you.
He still talks about how great they are. A coach is only allowed to do one or the other? Calling one player's practice brutal is "changing the formula"? Here, have fun with this one from 2010: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/un_served_rip_lkvpbkJjnt6S0F65ZD6mUM Ellis: 'Frustrating' to hear Ryan's roast of Jets defense Some great coaches do things different ways sometimes. I already pointed out Parcells and Coughlin. You just don't think Rex should be allowed to. But by all means, continue with your Pats fan criticism of a Jets coach.
Yeah, it's funny. When Rex says good things about players he is criticized for exaggerating and called a liar, when he says bad things he's criticized for not backing up his players and being mean. Which one is it? Why does everything have to be so black and white with some folks? Also he didn't roast Geno, and he's said similar things after bad Sanchez performances, but people just blindly follow the quotes the media highlights and ignore everything else as if it didn't happen.
U know that the USA has over 200 million souls & if I understand you correctly you are saying if Woody did a search out of those 200 million souls he would not find a better HC then RR?
Rex is not going to get demoted and when/if he leaves the Jets he's going to CBS or Fox not another team. He's got a lucrative career in broadcasting as soon as his coaching gig is up.
Well here is some very hot news I just received a blurp from the NYJs that Greeny & Golick will be doing a show from Floral Park on 09/06 from 0600 to 1000 hours ET
Woody - "Rex, we are demoting you to DC" Rex - "Die in a fire, I quit Woody." Rex has too much pride to take a demotion on the SAME team. I'm sure he could get a HC gig else-where at some point, if not he's taking a DC position else-where.
OK whatever no use speculating since we have much time to discuss RR future when the 13 season is in the books
I doubt there will be any fireworks since Greeny is a wimp & Golick desires to keep his job. They gave me a invitation to attend buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut I live to far away to see them cause if they had a open session I would certainly like to speak my piece & I assure U I would make a stir
Gruden and Rex would be a great team on telecasts. Gruden could pick apart the offenses, Rex could explain the defenses and they'd even play off of each other well with Gruden's slightly dark-side manner being offset perfectly by Rex doing the goofball now and then. I think it would be great entertainment and I think they'd push each other and I think the viewers would learn more about NFL football than is probably healthy to know.
I would think Rex would be the highest paid DC in the game if he went that route. In the long run, just like Westhoff, it might be better to be the best of the best than just one of 32.
The man has a desire to be a head coach though more than anything. In the end if he doesn't fix his desire to learn about offenses he could go to Mike Westoff route. I just don't think it would be here with the Jets. Do you really think he would take a demotion here in NY? With this blood sucking media? I mean it would be entertaining, can't deny that ... I can't stand Gruden sometimes though, I have a sneaky suspicion that the man gets drunk before he gets in the booth.
You cannot demote a guy when his contract states he is employed as the Head Coach. It's not a personal services contract where you can reassign him at will. And if fired, Rex still gets paid balance of contract. And that is one reason Woody didn't let Idzik fire him last winter.
