I'll pray for 40 touches in garbage time in blowout wins. I'll pray for 2 TD's on punt returns. I'll pray he serves to inspire every player on the roster. Sorry, but it doesn't sound to me like you will root for this kid at all.
That's all great, but how does he get on the field? I just don't see him playing at all. You would need three injuries to RBs for him to get a shot. He is the #4 RB and I don't recall him having a role on special teams. As for kick returns, if the Jets had even an a thought that he would return punts, wouldn't we have seen him return some in preseason??
He's the 2nd or 3rd string punt returner and the 4th string runningback who doesn't contribute on special teams because he's too small. The only reason he's on the roster is because he's been too good to cut. If some backs in front of him got hurt, he could play, and with Jones and Washington's uncertain contract situations, and Jones especially being a probable goner after this year, I think he's being stashed for next year. If he gets any sort of injury in practice, they'll IR him and he'll make the team next year.
Like I've said before if he's in a Jet uniform I'm rooting for him , I just scratch my head thiniking how he will get utilized if at all. Maybe , they are parking him on the roster until the Pace/Ellis suspensions are over , with hopes of then slipping him to the PS , when other teams already have established their PS.
Honestly, does it make sense to use Leonard as a punt returner with Woodhead on the roster? He HAS had some punt returns... I guess some people missed that. I think he's better than Leonard, and why risk a starting safety in that role? Anyone rememebr Jason Seahorn? No way the CS thought Woodhead would ever make the roster, until he did. So, Leonard got the punt returns. Jets staff meeting: Ryan: I can't cut this kid. He did all of what we asked and more. He served as an exampkle, and his own team mates voted for him as the most exemplary rookie in camp. Main Entry: ex?em?pla?ry Pronunciation: \ig-ˈzem-plə-rē\ Function: adjective Date: circa 1507 1 a : serving as a pattern b : deserving imitation : commendable <his courage was exemplary>; also : deserving imitation because of excellence Ryan: So, then how do we use him? CS:. mumble..... let him return punts. He can backup Leon as the change of pace RB and as a KO returner. Ryan: Leon still isn't signed, and Jones is gone next year. I we cut Woodhead, he's gone. What if we lose both Leon and Jones next year? CS: That would be bad. Ryan: You guys are missing the point. He was recognized by his own team as the player most deserving of imitation and excellence. Having players like that around serve as an example of what I want every player on this team to aspire to is the reason I kept him. Now, he can't just be set on a shelf, we have to find ways to use him. Go do it. Sure, I'm having some fun with this, but isn't it possible the staff meeting went just like that?
They want to package Feeley and a WR in a trade... likely why they kept 7. Might even be why the Jets kept Woodhead too...
Eagles have nobody I would want..nobody they are willing to trade anyway. I would certainly trade for Jackson.
A lot of you seem to be forgetting that only 45 players suit up. Woodhead will def. be an inactive every week, barring injuries.
Reggie Brown definitely would have made this team better. Give me a break. If you think the Eagles 7th receiver is going to make the Jets' season, I don't even know how to respond.
Even if Woodhead doesn't see the field much this year, when TJ is gone next year he's the #3 back and possibly takes over return duties as if LJ is one #1 back he probably won't be returning kicks too. There isn't anybody who was cut that has any more potential or brings anything else to the table then this kid does. He played his way on his team and deserves his spot.
