Maclin is one of the more realistic of signings from your list. While he won't break the bank, I think $8 million, 4 years might be a bit low. One would think he signed a 1 year deal specifically to avoid that kind of contract. That said, he seems like a good fit for us on paper. He's a complimentary WR, who knows the system and would provide a vertical threat. He'd be able contribute right away where as a rookie may take a year or 2.
So if we get Suh, will the D-Line's new name be Suhs of Anarchy? Probably won't happen, but that IS nice to think about, Suh, Wilkerson, Richardson. Might be a jailbreak on every other play. On the other hand, like half our cap would be locked up in the D-Line once they all get contracts.
As far as the cap, we have a lot of flexibility. Theoretically we could do a front loaded contract for both Suh and Wilkerson since we have a lot of space right now, make sure yet still get their yearly averages, but not be against a wall later. Just a possibility.
Wait another year? I'm prepared to wait another 2 years. I feel like 2016 is when you can be hard "playoffs or bust" expectations on this team. right now we are a bad team with a big question mark at Quarterback. Not to mention, Brady is 37 this year. I'm more then happy to let idzik be on a 3-4 year plan and slowly build this team the right way, work things so that we can extend our good young players, and add talent without being reckless to fill holes during a season when we arent contenders
I'd much rather have harrison at his price then suh at what he will command. Harrison is a pretty good player and we already know he can be successful. Not to mention, we already have a great defensive line and will need to invest a ton of money into Wilkerson and Richardson. im not sure its wise to invest big money into 3 players all on the dline.... especially when we lack talent in the secondary and at linebackers.... not to mention the offensive side of the ball
Front loaded contacts are bad ideas for good young players, as it often leads to a holdout when their salaries drop in the later years while they are still in their primes
You may not be wrong about that at all, I just have wet dreams about the pass-rushing presence Suh could bring to the interior of our line.
I think they can be bad, but are not absolutely bad. I don't see a player like Wilkerson holding out in such a manor.
its a business, and if the guy is at the end of a contract paying him well under market value, even if he made the bulk of is money upfront, its not unlikely he holds out. its a risk to take if you are management, thats why you dont see it often with young players unless its a team like say denver looking to make a run at the superbowl right now
In the spirit of wet dreaming would our front seven be better with Suh in place of Harrison or Hardy in place of Pace?
Lol, psychic, no, but I like to think I have a pretty good understanding of NFL football. Who knows if he'll come here, I just know how productive he could be in our system.
