Can we start a way too early 2014 draft picks and needs

Discussion in 'Draft' started by tanknyc, May 12, 2013.

  1. Gurley would be perfect for what the Jets need at RB. Big, powerful, quick to the hole & electrifying open field speed. He might be the fastest big back I've ever seen. Eddie George w/ wheels...scary.

Eh, I personally just dont see an NFL arm there. At this point he's a 3rd round prospect in my eyes. If you dont have a good arm, other traits have to be great in order to succeed- footwork, mechanics, pocket presence, ability to read a defense and most importantly anticipation and accuracy.

    Im skeptical at this point.

His thighs are just massive tree trunks. I agree with your statement there. The lightning to his thunder in that backfield is also a pretty good prospect- Keith Marshall. He's not tiny either at 5-11 220. Gurley just makes him look tiny.

So 2 QBs from one of the weakest QB classes in a while are starting day 1, but one of the top QBs from a great QB class CAN'T start day 1?

    Ok, makes sense.

If Boyd is mediocre or average, what are Geno and EJ?

    LOL.

dont really see "it" in Boyd

honestly I dont see "it" in Geno or EJ as well

I want a QB with the "IT" factor to be honest, that guy who can come in and produce without question

I want a QB other teams would want and Boyd, Geno, EJ, etc aren't my kind of QB's

Well Teddy Bridgewater is the only one that fits that, and we are going to have to have the worst record to get him.

I can't see him ever becoming more than a career backup... Any time he plays a good team, he struggles. Any time he's under pressure, he panics. As I listed in the other thread, I don't think I'd put him in my top 10 draft-eligible QBs.

    I might agree here.

Teddy, Mariota, Manziel, Boyd, Hundley, Morris, AJ McCarron... Then you have Kevin Hogan, Murray, Fales, Miller, and Renner.

Right now Teddy, Mariota, Manziel and Boyd are the only 1st round players in my mind. Murray fall into a mid round category for me.

Gurley is the best RB in college football right now, too bad he's only a sophomore

Whoops. He actually played well vs SC. Still doesnt change my mind about him lacking the physical tools.

Is it me, or does he look like he's 5'11? He does not look like the same size as Johnny Manziel or Connor Shaw or even Drew Brees for that matter.

After week one I'll add some needs.

    Offense:

Pass catching TE. Winslow was huge, but he is aging and a medical concern, Geno needs someone to grow with. This should be a big investment if the player is there.

WR and RB. This could change as the year progresses. Right now we look to need some Playmakers.

    Oline depth.

    Defense:

Safety: of the defensive positions it is the one that lacks a true game changer. The young guys looked ok, but a stud would help.

OLB: even with Coples it's a need. You can never have enough pass rushers.

CB depth is always a good thing and Cro's contract and age should be a concern next offseason.

We need to invest in skills silicon players. Hill looks ok. Kerley is a good slot guy, but we need a game changer both outside and up the seam. The RBs look average at best. The D is very nice shape, but the best way to keep it there is invest more picks. All in all happy after week one.

    Biggest Need

    Wide Receiver opposite Hill

we need a guy who can a 10 catch a game guy while Hill is the big play deep threat

Sammy Watkins is ideal maybe even a big receiver like Brandon Coleman 6-6 220

Also a TE to match with Cumberland and we need a RT, Howard was awful

If we can come away with say, ASJ at TE in round 1 and Ed Reynolds at S in round 2, that would be awesome!! Maybe even trade back into the 2nd and shoot for Jordan Matthews at WR if he's available near the back end. But next season we have to look at S, TE, WR, OLB, OG, and C in that order. C just to get a better backup then Schlauderauff.

I want Sammy Watkins or Lee. They would be huge for Geno.

At TE, Colt Lyerla would be great. Im not sure where he will lie come draft day, but something like Watkins in round 1 and Lyerla in round 2 would be phenomenal.

Austin Howard wasn't bad. He was graded pretty high among RTs this week.

We need WRs TEs. Weapons weapons weapons

    I agree with everything.

We'l have a lot of picks from both the Revis deal and all of the incoming comp picks we're going to be receiving. A trade back into the 2nd would make too much sense given our needs.

If we shoot for something just as you stated, we could come out with:

    1. ASJ, TE
    2. Reynolds, FS
    2. Matthews, WR
    3. OLB

and then I'd like another RB unless we sign a McFadden, Tate, or MJD.

We'd have our great d-line, a pretty good LB corps, very good CBs, and a pretty good S corps depending on how Allen/Jarrett/Bush progress.

On the O-side, we'd finally have true weapons for our QB. We'd have a stud TE, above average to good WRs with Matthews, Hill, and Kerley, and a good offensive line, especially if Winters/Ducasse take steps forward. We could also snag a guy like Oher in free agency to really solidify our line if Howard continues to look like he did yesterday.

    We're close.

EDIT: @ laxin, I don't think we'll be drafting high enough for either Lee or Watkins.

I think the Jets with all the cap space we'll have next season are going to go after some serious pieces. Tate would be an excellent inexpensive and high upside signing to our RB corp, as would Jeremy Maclin coming off that ACL tear to help further bolster our WR group with experience in the system and play-making ability. Hakeem Nicks as well will be a FA if he's not franchise tagged. So WR may not be as big a priority come draft time. S has got to be very high as Allen/Bush wont ever be anything more than mid-level caliber players and Landry is a 2 year stopgap at most. Need more upside and range in the back of the secondary.

I do expect to have a top-10 pick after this season, probably between 4-8. Trade back into the low teens to grab an extra 3rd and grab ASJ, then grab best S/WR/OLB available at our next pick. With all the draft ammo we'll have stocked up, I'd be shocked if Idzik didn't trade up at least once to grab a player he figured was too good to pass up.

I'm honestly very excited for this season and next offseason. Going to be a very big house cleaning of some familiar faces and the money will just pile up. I also would like them to extend Mo Wilk after the season as well. Reduce our cap number more and keep him a Jet for a long time. Not make the same mistakes Tanny did with Mevis.

I still want Kyle Van Noy, I believe this kid is a game changer. then go Jordan Matthews or Cody Hoffman in round 2, we need skill players as well.

we could also go after a few FA's, because we will have the money.
