Why can't the built in Sanchez excuse of "He led us to 2 AFC Championship games" be applied to Schotty? (Just playing Devil's Advocate...I don't think Schotty is a good OC, but I think its a valid question...It couldn't have all been bad with him, right?)
Again, you guys wat to post #s w/o context. 2006: got Chad off of TWO rortator cuff surgeries in the previous 2 seasons. 2007: had Kellen Clemens start most games 2008: got Frave a month before the seasona nd Favre didn't want to be here 2009: rookie Mark Sanchez, helped us get to title game 2010: Another new WR, another title game w/ Mark. 2011: 2 of top 3 WRs were new and had no offseason, OL stunk. Stop blaming him, it's so silly. The players stunk last year.
I'm really really really hoping all of the "special" mainstay packages are being kept under deep cover. What we are all seeing is unacceptable. What happened to the simplified blocking schemes? Sanchez is going to have to play a lot of shot gun this season and they need to line up Tebow next to Greene in the backfield to run the option. That's the only way they will overcome the pathetic right side.
^^^This Again, Schotty's not the best OC in the world, but I think he was largely a scape goat. To my knowledge, its the same OL this year that Schotty was working with last year...Only so much you can do with limited talent.
It would be nice if you didn't make things up. favre threw 31 times, Seattle's QB threw it 25- very similar. Thomas Jones averaged under 4 YPV on his 17 carries. We comllapsed late b/c Favre sucked like he had a good portion of that yar outside a 4-5 game stretch. Chad was healthy in 2008 and went to a system he already had played in so his adjustment was easier than Favre's who was playing in a new system for the first time in 16 years. Stop throwing out nonsense w/o context.
He is the scapegoat much like you guys w/ Henning 2 years ago. That's waht fans do, they blame the OC and QB for all offensive problems.
Also played hurt at the end of the year because his streak meant more than the team he didn't want to be on.
Sparano doesn't like running the shotgun... I would be surprised if they start using the shotgun heavily as long as Sparano is here...If they are planning to run more of a shotgun based offense then they need to practice it some in the Preseason IMO... I know they don't want to tip their hand, but if you are trying to install a new offense, you have to practice it at some point...
Schotty had some good moments, but as an OC for the same team for 6 years, you can't improve on game-planning and calling plays during the game? Damn shame. One thing Schotty was good at was 2nd half adjustments - other than that I can't think of one other positive to him being here. The entire team is held accountable, but it's the OC that I have the most issues with. His inability to get the ball to the play-makers and knowing when to run and when to pass. The fact that he tried forcing the football into the hands of Plax and Mason, tried changing the philosophy of the offense when things were working. Just bad decisions
Context gets fuzzy over time. Its more appropriate when looking at a small sample size. Do you really believe that out of 32 teams in the NFL Schotty was the only one who had issues to deal with on offense? Sure the players stunk last year... does Matt Mulligan ring a bell? It's not Schotty's fault that Wayne Hunter is still on this roster but then again its inaccurate to say Schotty was solely to blame... he wasn't. He was the weakest link however and the numbers back that up. What was consistent with Schotty was personnel having a significant impact on the performance of the offense as a whole. Schotty's best year was with one of the NFL's all time great quarterbacks, and as I pointed out Favre had a down year by his own standards under Schotty. In the Rex Ryan Mark Sanchez era the Jets have been most successful with Braylon Edwards on the unit. Pre and post Braylon Edwards the Schotty offense stinks. Good coaches get the most out of their players and have the unit as a total overachieve. Bad coaches only thrive on individuals and what they can bring to the table. Schotty falls under the latter category. With the amount of first round players, quarterbacks in particular that he has had to work with you would expect more than an average ranking of 15.8 scoring and 20.5 yards. The best you can say about him is that he's an average coordinator who needs significant individual efforts to really be successful. Discipline under his offense was shit. Players underachieved frequently in his offense. The pre-snap motions and reads were so complicated that it took away from executing normal football. He's not a total wash but for a team looking to win a Super Bowl six years is enough of a body of work to realize its time to look somewhere else for something better.
show me the annual issues the other Ocs were dealing w/? what I do know is that his offenses helped us get to 3 postseasons, win 4 playoff games, get to 2 title games and didn't cost us either of the title games. You can blame him all you want but you have to look at all the factors. he did a good job overall here but Ocs are scapegoats, we wouldn't have had a great offense w/ Brady last year w/ our OL issues.
Favre had a torn muscle we were 8-3 and well on our way towards winning the division. Why even throw the football 31 times? We had Thomas Jones running hard that year. And you know TJ's style you know he would of eventually broke one to the house. Doesn't matter if he's averaging 4 yards a carry, you still run the freaking football, you never get away from your bread and butter. We collapsed because we got an old ass Favre and tried implementing him into a system where he does NOT fit. Matter of fact, NO QB has really fit in this system for 6 years he was here. Schottenheimer had a problem getting the ball to his primary play-makers. To me that's a glaring issue. I'm not blaming Schottenheimer entirely for the offensive woes the past years, but he was a large part of it.
Favre was the guy on the field with the ball in his hands and 20 years in the league, or whatever it was. The buck has to stop with him, it wasn't just the Seattle game. If Buffalo wasn't stupid we'd have lost all those games, Shaun Ellis saved us on a miracle play because they didn't just take a knee.
You wield the circumstances that Schotty faced as evidence of your argument but then ignore the rest of the league and ask me to give it to you? I will do no such thing as I am not the one making an argument on a specific selection of facts. Your decision to create a vacuum for Schotty is your own. Here are facts however: Jets playoff teams with Schotty aboard: 2010 Offense Rankings: Points: 13, Yards: 11 Defense Rankings: Points: 6, Yards: 3 2009 Offense Rankings: Points: 17, Yards: 20 Defense Rankings: Points: 1, Yards: 1 2006 Offense Rankings: Points: 18, Yards: 25 Defense Rankings: Points: 6, Yards: 20 Every single playoff team the defense out performed the offense. I would make the argument that in all three cases, the defense lead the Jets to the playoffs, not the offense. Schotty has never been a direct cause of success for the Jets as a team. The offense has had good moments with him but they haven't been a driving force at all with him. Schotty's best offenses were 2010 and 2008. Those also happened to be the years that the Jets had the best personnel available to it under the Schotty regime. Out of any of the six years he's been here, there is absolutely 0 evidence that his offenses will ever improve. His style certainly didn't. He never made adjustments when things went south, like last year. If you want context, we can say that the 2011 defense ranked 20th in points allowed due to the turnovers and penalties and lack of adjustment on the part of the offense. They still ranked 5th in yards so it isn't like they were being torched up and down the field. But the offense was regularly handing opportunities to other teams to score. I stand by my argument - Schotty was the biggest loser and I'm glad he's gone. Mulligan and Hunter are 2a and 2b. Hopefully Hunter's pink slip isn't long in the making.
Schotty isn't at least to blame for the Steeler title game where he decided to pass the ball 2 or 3 times (can't remember) at the 2 yard line, when Greene was pounding the rock the entire drive?
But again...Is that due to talent or offensive scheme? Your post doesn't go far enough to answer that.
Sorry, favre suppsoedly got hurt in october, he had his best stretch of football in Novemeber so I don't buy that excuse for a second. He was making bad decisions, it wasn't b/c of his arm. I don't care about rankings, those offenses helped us get to those postseason berth and helped us win. the 2 title game apps came w/ a rookie and 2nd year QB. That's almost unheard of. No, it's about execution. They didn't execute, the D allowed Pitt to run all over us that first half and when we got the game back to w/in a score late the D just had to hold Pitt from getting 2 1st downs- they couldn't. We lost b/c of the D.
we have never had a top tier QB and until that changes we are never going to be anything but an average (at the very best) Offense. An average offense would put us around #16 which is 10 spots higher than we have been of late so that would be a real improvement!
