An open competition is ideal but idk if who performs best at LT should be the determining factor. IMO Fant is trash at RT For example: let’s do a simple grade of 1-10 let’s say Fant gets an 8 for LT and Becton gets a 9 let’s say Fant gets a 5 for RT and Becton gets an 8 If the OL is decided solely on who “wins” LT, I fear for our right side. Edit: I’m not making the assumption Moses comes back, so I’m just basing this on the 2 quality T we have on the roster
I just googled “are all surgeries successful and without complications” Google replied: are you an idiot. My jaw dropped. *there are no facts in this post
Are there any facts that point to ANY complications with the player’s surgery in question? No. There aren’t. Because that’s a get out of jail free card for Douglas, the Jets and Becton’s side. They wouldn’t be hiding Becton behind a curtain every time they’re asked a question about him if there was a surgical complication or infection, they’d simply state it as NFL teams do.
Becton is like 380 normally. He showed up to camp out of shape, lets say 5-10 lbs overweight, then he got injured and had to stay off his feet for 2 months, give him an extra 5-10 lbs there and the 400 lb figure is not at all surprising How can anyone be surprised? I dont get it. its not like were talking about Elijah Moore being 400lbs here. It's simply the biggest guy on the football field showing up 20 lbs overweight.
Did he? I thought he posted a workout video in July looking jacked. I’m 6’2 205. I can gain/lose 5 lbs in a few days. With Becton’s size, 5lbs overweight is just him needing to take a shit.
he did. Even if you don't want to believe the reporters who reported it, or his own coach saying he "needed to work through some things", how else do you explain his poor performance in camp or having to leave the field early every time he faced live action? as for your odd post surrounding shitting and/or your personal measurements, that was my point. The guy is huge normally, that's why I'm not surprised he was 400lbs
TBF we're talking about young men who are at different ages and different levels of maturity and trying to predict how they'll mature. Not to excuse Douglas altogether because there are certainly things you can use to draw inferences, but when there's massive upside involved that often clouds more critical judgment. If Becton doesn't get his fat ass in gear though, he's definitely "NFL" (Not For Long) material.
this was him in august prior to the season does he look fat and out of shape? he also started the season for us at LT when we had fant and moses so he could have easily been benched by the CS since we had capable players behind him. I'm sure he gained weight from the injury. all athletes do. remember those old diet pill commercials? with the before and after? those were athletes who got injured and gained weight then lost it after the injury healed. yes people said weight contributed to the slow heal time, doesn't surprise me. he's a massive human being. doesn't mean he's fat and out of shape and doesn't mean he can't bounce back
I can be surprised because 380 is already enormous. 380 makes Becton the 6th or 7th heaviest NFL player of all time. It's too heavy and suboptimal even if that's his weight. As a highly drafted NFL player a big part of your job is being in shape. If you're already heavier than optimal and then put on weight on top of that it's not a good sign. Let's look at the timeline here and tell me there's not a problem: Becton gets fined by the team for being overweight at the end of his rookie season. Becton shows up to next training camp overweight. Becton injures foot and gains weight. Becton injures knee and gains more weight. You don't see a problem here? The guy has known for a long time that he's heavier than the team would like but just can't seem to keep the weight off.
I'm going to trust multiple reports from multiple different reporters as well as comments from our coaches over the eye test from a YouTube video. I don't care if he's low BF for someone that heavy, he's still too heavy. Adding muscle isn't a free lunch. It affects quickness, flexibility and recovery from injury. Even at 350 he'd be plenty heavy and strong enough to be an elite OT. At his current weight it's a detriment to his play and ability to stay healthy. It's no coincidence he was consistently getting killed by speed rushers all training camp.
muscle weighs more then fat. it's better for lineman to have a belly then to be fit and trim. they need power and weight more then they need 6 pack abs. trent brown is listed 15lbs heavier and is only 1 inch taller then becton mckinnie was even heavier then that. He's a large human.
Maybe, maybe not. Some people struggle with food/overeating. It's akin to alcoholism. I've battled weight issues all my life and it has nothing to do with maturity.
And he’s missed 25 games in three years. So you’re supporting the point that it’s an issue to be that large.
It's not just a matter of weight, it's how it affects his play and his ability to be on the field. Obviously in Becton's case those two factors are trending negative. And that of course points to a maturity concern, because if you're being paid millions of dollars to do a job and you don't take care of yourself and become unable to do that job that shows limited maturity. Hopefully the messages the Jets are sending are received and absorbed by Mekhi and he reports in 100% shape and ready to play, but based on his track record so far we have to be skeptical until he shows us otherwise.
Not sure what this has to do with my post. If anything this is a further indictment of Becton considering he doesn't have a belly and is relatively low BF for his weight. There is a good reason that most of the best OT's in NFL history have been in the 320-330 range. It's the most optimal weight, where you're big enough to not get overpowered but still nimble enough to handle speed rushers.
