Eh, I'd take it with a grain of salt. It's possible he came into camp a little out of shape (which would definitely be concerning), but we hear these overblown distress stories every year at camp. He was also facing one of the best pass rushers in the game every day.

The on-field 2020 production didn't indicate any issues in pass protection. Quite the opposite, PFF had him in the top 10 of left tackles and he was widely considered one of the best selections of the first round after the season.

The belief that Carl Lawson is one of the best pass rushers was the overblown success story of our camp. We have 4 years of data on him. He's a six sack a year guy. Becton also got beat by every edge we scrimmaged against in camp.

We get those too. In 2020, had the 4th most pressures in the league. Obviously, you want him to convert more of those but he was clearly a force off the edge. I'd rather have a guy who gets 60 pressures and 6 sacks than a guy who gets 40 pressures and 10 sacks.

I’ve literally never heard anyone mention Carl Lawson as being one of the leagues best pass rushers even prior to his injury/arriving here.

I mentioned it purely because people keep pushing it really. Definitely wouldn't be my preferred route.

Some say it because they probably never watched any film of Becton in college, and others probably say it for the same reason that they assume that Wirfs could make the switch to LT.

You constantly show your lack of knowledge with your posts. Sacks aren't the only way to judge an Edge. He got a ton of pressures, and there are valid reasons why he didn't get a huge number of sacks. He was very disruptive for the Bengals.

Becton’s injury history is a bit flukey. He hurt his shoulder as a rookie and wasn’t allowed to heal before Gase threw him back out there. Remember he didn’t start but was listed as the second string tackle and thh tackle got hurt and Gase put him in. Made no sense, if he’s not healthy enough to start he’s not healthy enough to sub in. Who knows how many games he missed as a rookie if it was handled right. This year he got rolled up on, could happen to anyone, and does. I wonder how much of him staying out was tied to fant playing well.

Becton was also getting roasted by pass rushers from the teams we had joint practices with, even their backups at times.

My stance is that if Becton shows up in June and isn't 100% in shape and ready to play, Douglas needs to start looking for a trade partner that will give him reasonable value. If he can't get a good offer, then keep him and hope for the best, but Douglas should've already acquired some alternatives in case Becton fails again.

Who could’ve thought that the Jets end up with two guys who are decent at left tackle but struggle on the fucking right side? Only the Jets.

Doesn't really matter whether people say it if the production says it

To me, he needs to be 60 lb lighter before draft day showing the Jets three months of commitment to the craft, or I’m covering my bets with Fant plus a OT with one of the first round picks.

I don't think losing 60 pounds in 3 months is either healthy or feasible for a professional athlete.

You are right course. Frustration on my part. But he needs to take his body seriously, start converting some of that fat to muscle and get in optimum shape for him. Apparently his overweight condition delayed his recovery by a bunch. I would be very unhappy if he enters OTA in similar shape. Q did a hell of a job last year and so did CJ, and neither were really over weight.

I may be mistaken, but I don't believe one can convert fat into muscle. Becton had a very low body fat content especially for a man of his size at the time of the draft.

If he has a low fat percentage then my point is mute, because to loose weight he would have to loose muscle mass which is not good for an athlete. I sure hope he gets back in fighting shape for us.

Having more muscle isn't a free lunch. It's not purely a positive. Having too much muscle can still slow you down, make you more stiff and decrease your cardio since all the muscle has to be fed with a lot of oxygen. Becton could lose 40 lbs of muscle and still be one of the biggest guys in the NFL.

Absolutely. He can become leaner in terms of muscle mass for sure. He probably needs to. 40lbs is a lot though and It's not necessarily that easy to achieve. It is possible he has gained fat, whilst losing muscle and strength because he hasn't got the training and/or diet right, which could have been the root of his problems this season.

Becton can't be trusted. If Evan Neal is available they should take him. Maybe that decision will motivate Becton to show up to camp in the best shape of his life. If so, its win/win, we have 2 anchor tackles. If not, oh well, Neal is an awesome offensive lineman
