The question is not whether one should ever draft a player who was injured in college. The question is whether it was best to look to three players with a significant history of injury to cover the starting cb spots among them.

Of course circumstances contributed to what happened in the pre-season, but it is also true that the three players showed something less than an inspiring history of durability before camp. Yet the Idzik apologists will not acknowledge that.

Milliner had five surgeries before he left college, and was hurt coming out of his senior year, with a leftover concern heading into his first NFL camp. During which he got injured again, hurting his development last year, and of course injured again , this pre-season. Put aside the homeristic stance you want to defend here, do you really believe he is a durable player?

Again, the fact that some player got hurt in a different part of his body does not make a prior history of injury irrelevant. Some people are more disposed to injury than others. With no contrary track record of durability, we know McDougle spent almost all his senior year in rehab. Now I dont think anyone here thought he was going to start on opening day, so I'm not too negative in his situation. But neither would I be surprised if he never played a game in the NFL at this point. It was a dubious draft pick, and more to the point McDougle was not going to be the short term answer, and was also dubious later in the coming season.

Patterson I don't think I need to say more about.

They all had significant histories of injuries. I don't know what you mean by injury prone.

What would make Vick a stupid signing is if they don't use him. But yes his signing contradicts the save cap space article of faith among Idzik Fans.

While I get your point about Johnson, I think that signing made sense because of the flexibility Johnson adds to the passing game. As much as I love Chris Ivory (still Idzik's best move to date), he's not great catching it out of the backfield. And while i would love to see more from Powell, the way he tailed off at points after a strong start was concerning. He's just not all that good.

I expect Marty will really make good use of Johnson, too. Smith fans here in particular should appreciate Idzik getting Johnson.

Vick was signed in case Geno was not ready to go. You can't sign a true backup QB to play that role. You need to sign an aging starter who is about done but probably has enough left in the tank for another year or even two if need be.

The Colts signed Matt Hasselbeck to a 2 yr $7.25M deal with ANDREW LUCK as their starter AFTER Luck had taken them to the playoffs as a rookie.

Young starting QB? Good experienced vet backup at the end of his career.

Again, you won't see this because you block people who make you look bad... but Vick is not a stupid signing no matter how many snaps he plays. Hopefully he plays 0, and guess what? It was still a good signing. It's pretty obvious that Vick has helped Geno mentally and will only continue to do so. He's a mentor that our young QB has respected since he was in middle school and a guy who can also step in and be serviceable if needed. You spend $5 mil on that in today's NFL. That's just reality.

Vick was a GREAT signing whether he plays or not and I say this because of one thing in particular.
I believe he was brought here to show Geno how important his legs are to his game.
Obviously he's a great guy to have coming off the bench GOD forbid of an injury but we all know Geno was told by the coaches that he needs to know when to use his speed.
What better QB to bring in here to show how important it can be then Mike Vick?
    BRILLIANT!

My bitch in the past with Sanchez and Rex both being rookies at the same time was that nobody knew how to handle a rookie QB.
IMO, Sanchez was doomed to fail, a discussion for another thread.
Now with MM running the offense along with David Lee, Geno is in GREAT hands!
What they did was identify the issue with Geno not knowing when to use his legs and say , "let's bring in the master" to actually SHOW Geno how it's done.

    As far as our GM goes;
I get frustrated with Idzik and feel he's made more then a few blunders but I'm willing to give his approach time before I climb to the roof and jump.

Having a neutral turnover margin will not be good enough for the Jets in my opinion. We need to do better then that.

He won't respond at all because he has me blocked. I guess you can only take so much of looking like an idiot

  10. Idzik has actually built the roster back up much quicker than I thought he would. The Jets are young, deep w/ future spendings to spare.

Is the roster perfect? No it isn't. The corner position needs some tweaking..but it isn't the disaster people portray it as. Also WR remains average at best. In today's NFL you need play makers on the outside. I think Idzik will eventually realize this.Rome wasn't built in a day.

Jet fans need to stop living & dying year to year.Realize that we are in the midst of something sustainable being built & enjoy the ride. I think the fun really begins next year..although the 2014 Jets will be exciting & competitive.

I haven't gotten through every post in the thread yet, but this is by far the smartest, well-thought out, on target post I've seen on this subject anywhere. I agree completely, and would not have been able to verbalize it any better so I defer to you.

Graham "nickel and dime"'d his way into a hell of a game against the Bears WRs today. 3 tackles, 3 PDs and a key INT.

That's great good for him. I see you are trying to make a point here, but as I mentioned before, I am not worried about the CB position - and I am glad we didn't spend a ton of money on the position.

    Our CBs played good today.

Graham "nickel and dime"'d his way into another great week 10 tackles and 3 PDs. I think I'm going to have to make these Corey Graham updates a weekly thing…LOL.

I was looking through some threads from the past and found this gem I just had to share.

I guess everything is OK since my only problem is lacking patience.

These guys assure us that everything happening is just part of the plan our GM has.

You say everyone but if you read through this thread you will see several posts from true believers that overlooked these glaring errors.
