Chad can definitely take us to the big game. He can borrow Herm's bus, and probably get good seats too.
Yeah, there is a reason QBs get gobs of money. It's called hype. I agree with DWare - it's about the team. You don't need a QB that can make all the throws all the time because that's impossible. Even Joe Montata threw INTs. Being a QB is a lot more than arm strength. Yes, that obviously helps. If a QB comes along that is better than Chad, I trust Mangini to plug him in. For now, Chad is the man and he gives the Jets the best chance to win the Superbowl.
What exactly was "not just right" about last season's Colts team. Their defense was dominant down the stretch. Their running game won them the Superbowl. Peyton got lots of protection. Maybe their special teams weren't great but I thought they adjusted to Hester well in the Superbowl. Yeah, Peyton was the man but that whole team is stacked, especially at the most important position - coaching.
How many elite QBs are even in the league right now? Three? Four? It's a waste of time to expend so much energy and money trying to find a needle in the haystack like that. Look what happened to the Giants with Eli. Now they're stuck with him. There are definitely positions on the team that need more improvement than QB right now so the Jets are wisely focusing on those.
It's this kind of intelligent, in-depth analysis that keeps me coming back to this site time and time again.
There are two games that stick out in my mind as far as Chad goes from last season: One is the Browns game. The Jets defense was terrible. But Chad's last minute pass to Baker showed the kind of poise and accuracy you want from your QB in the final seconds of a game. The other game was the second Miami game in the rain. Chad's TD pass to Cotchery was right on the money in a high pressure situation. I can't think of one game last season where Chad just got manhandled. In the Jags game, it was the WRs that couldn't find a way to get open. In the Bears game, Chad held his own. But I can think of a bunch of games where the Jets defense looked like complete shit (first Pats game, second Bills game, Browns game, Jaguars game, Colts game, and the playoff game).
H'mm think ur memory cells need a recharge since if I recall correctly Baker was called OOBs was he not? You can rationalize anythng if that is what U want to do which is what you doing with ur post IMHO
Whether he was out of bounds is debatable. No point in getting into it - the refs said he was out. Either way, it was a great pass.
I was just wondering.....When was the last time Chad Pennington was able to go through an entire offseason and training camp without rehabing? I will not judge Chad until after this coming year. I have never seen Chad Pennington perform as a seasoned vet, with no rehab, with an offense that he knows well, and coming off an entire season of starting. Neither have any of you. Yet some of you judge Chad as though he has failed you before with a normal season (no off season surgeries before hand) with a playbook that he knows like second nature. For me, this coming season (baring any injuries of course) will define what I think of Chad being the answer.
Perhaps you're the one who needs to get their skull checked. The Baker pass was caught inbounds. Baker was in the air and forced out. NFL rules state that should have been a TD. It came down to a judgement call by the refs. Nothing we could do there. There was even a video circulating where someone had edited out the defenders and there is no doubt Baker catches the ball and would have landed in bounds.
Then CPs pass was errant since he should have thrown it more inside so that Baker could get his feet down per the rules. All the rest of ur post IMHO is pure coulda, woulda & shoulda which in the end =s NOTHING
Chad threw the ball where Baker could get it and the defenders could not. It's not Chad's fault the officiating crew botched the call.
Belive what U want but it ALL does not matter since he was called OOBs & that became a L on the ledger side right? Oh yes if CP would have perform better thru out the game & then the Baker thing maybe have been negated under any circimstances right?
Well first off, Clemens won't start in 08. Secondly, please name me a situation where Chad's apparent lack of arm strength has cost us a game. No, "what ifs" -- a legitimate example where Chad's unability to throw the long bomb has cost us the game. Third, prove that he cant throw the long bomb. Has anyone ever considered that perhaps he's more of a fan of the short passing game. I seem to recall last season he had a 50+ yard bomb to McCareins for a TD. Chad's going to be here for a while, get used to him.
actually it was a GREAT pass. Baker caught the ball in the air and was forced out, so it should have actually been called a catch. You can blame that on the refs.
