As much as I like what the falcons have done, I just cant get past the fact that, in my opinion the 9'ers are loaded. A guy who had more than a helping hand in drafting Aldon Smith, Colin Kaepernick, Dashon Goldson, Patrick Willis, Navaro Bowman and Micheal Crabtree. Were a team that needs to build through the draft, and I don't think there's many teams that have done better.
Not presenting any evidence to support your theory that G-Mac or Tebow would've given this team a better chance to win is also the opposite of a reasonable argument. Works both ways chief.
Well, if you judge success solely on the VLT, than I agree, he's been a disappointment. I feel this is a narrow minded way of looking at things considering only 1 of 32 teams experiences success at the end of the season. I choose to measure success by playoff wins and in that regard he has been successful since he's been here (especially when you compare him to the rest of the league). I don't currently have the time, but I would bet Rex is up there with the most playoff wins in the past 4 years (top 5 for sure).
yeah i was thinking the same. Tebow to Jax will be an Ownership move (like it was with the Jets). It will become difficult to convince the fans a guy like Henne is the best starter, even tho he is. That seems like a difficult spot for a GM (even more so for a coach).
Uh oh for Gamble: "And the opportunity in New York has arisen for Caldwell in part because, as we hear it, Tom Gamble’s interview with the Jets didn’t go well." -PFT
Nobody on this site has any idea on what GM is the best choice but someone will start a post on why the Jets made the wrong choice and start the same old jets mantra. I start to understand why no-sport fans think we are morons other then listening to callers to sports radio
@TurnOnTheJets Re: Report on Gamble interview not going well, heard from a source he lacks understanding of salary cap...just passing it along #Jets
I think you can form a reasonable idea based on the history of these individuals... it's not as easy as evaluating a player who you actually watch do their work, but their backgrounds and the organizational philosophies which they come from indicate a lot about where their head is at.
thats why you hire a capologist and let him handle that. A GM should be a talent guy not an accountant
This guy has been around for a long time and not even he understands how the hell we got ourselves into this mess. Or he's just retarded.
Sure but Caldwell is a talent guy and apparently knows how to navigate the cap. If you have 2 relatively equal candidates, I don't know why you wouldn't want the more well-rounded one.
Well, you can hire scouts for talent. A GM must do both very well and handle pressure. That's why there's 1 of them per team and multiple scouts and accountants.
A cap understanding is important due to cap implications. You don't need to be a cap expert like Tannenbaum was, but you need context on how decisions will affect the future of the franchise.
No, he needs to be both. A GM needs to have his hand prints everywhere. Tanny failed because he didn't do the former. Gamble could easily fail cause he can't do the latter.
we need a cap guy w/ where we are now, that is something we never needed to worry about w/ Mike b/c he was a cap guru but whoever inherites this team will need to navigate a tricky cap situation.
I agree but if he's a better "talent" guy than Caldwell I think that should be the sticking point. When building through the draft, managing the cap is relatively easier. However Caldwell intrigues me because he's younger, energetic and fresh. Similar to how Grigson came into Indianapolis and changed their culture
