Alternate opinion: He has proven he can excel under the tabloid spotlight of a media circus making him the perfect QB for the New York market.
That's your opinion. You can't expect people to "understand" your opinion. And I think you are very very wrong. He has done amazing on the center stage and his immaturity will all cure with his growth as an individual. I'm not buying this "New York will ruin him" bullshit. You people say the same shit about every QB prospect. Give me a break
Yeah because New York is so frightening hahaha Every prospect is doomed because New York will ruin them all!!!! Stay away! It's a terrifying place!
I'm not saying Cutler is the only one to blame for Chicago's struggles, but I've just never been crazy about him. He's a mistake waiting to happen and he's inconsistent. There's a reason he's about to be dumped by his second team.
Thank you for your lucid response...unlike Falco. Your point is well taken but, and Falco listen up, what makes NY so "Frightening" is the sheer volume of everything! I can't stress everything! 5 times the media in your face waiting for you to fail. 5 times the idiots trying to suck you dry...or get you into trouble. 10 times the PLACES to get into trouble at. On and on and on... You know...it's not just me. EVERYONE says the same when it comes to NY. It's not just me spouting oddities. This kid can't keep his nose clean in a college town. And some of these things aren't "pulling your friends pants down in the cafeteria" bad. No, he's on the hook for rape...and it's not "Colin Kaepernick" going away! This is STILL out there. Nope, I think I'll pass.
You are correct. I clearly recognize the notion that there is much more room to negotiate a Cutler trade than a Bradford trade. Obviously, the number one incentive is that Chicago wants to move Cutler out and the Rams want to retain Sam unless they can move up and draft a QB. I'm not disputing your point that Cutler can be a more realistic reach. But one can speculate about different expectations for different teams, can't we? The Rams will for sure ask Sam to renegotiate his last year as a minimum. The Rams Also want to draft a QB to protect themselves. Now, let us for a minute hypothesize that Winston is sitting there at five when we are ready to have our name called. Our new guru is not sold on him. The phone rings and it's the Rams. Can a trade be made? Possibly... So we trade number 1 picks and get Bradford, plus some other reasonable compensation? Is that totally crazy and unrealistic? Oh well It just dawned on me that in either scenario be it Cutler or Bradford it will require one thing to be successful . A premier OL. Not good but great...and a damned good running game.
I would hardly say that your trade scenario is impossible. And perhaps St. Louis might feel more comfortable with Winston than we should. But aside from them ending up with someone like Winston, i think the Rams keep Bradford. Hill had a serviceable game yesterday, but they still lost. Says here with the Rams having a very good D and the Niners in decline that they want to make a move up in the division, and a healthy Bradford can do that for them. Another factor is that while I don't understand Bradford's injury to be career threatening, Cutler is certainly in better shape right now. Add it all up and Cutler is the more likely scenario.
It cuts the other way too. A big reason Cutler has 28 TD passes is that he was able to throw against prevent Ds late in blowout games and accumulate meaningless stats. How many of those 28 TDs came in meaningful game situations? Cutler's turnovers and poor play often put the Bears way behind in games, particularly in the 2 you mentioned. It's Jake Plummer-itis. No good organization with a plan for long-term sustained success would trade for Cutler. No good organization in general would trade for Cutler. It's a move a GM on the firing block makes to try to scratch out 10 wins and a wildcard. The guy is a loser, plain and simple. I'd rather go 1-15 every season with a high draft pick QB starting in the hopes that he develops into a franchise player than waste a single season on Cutler. And any smart GM would agree.
The point of getting Cutler would not be to build a team around him. The point of getting him would be to give the team a year or two to find and develop the young QB we're going to need to be successful. He's wouldn't be a long term answer at QB. He would be cover for a season or two that would allow the Jets to really develop a good young QB, particularly a guy drafted early in the 2015 draft.
Yes, but I also think that Cutler could make the Jets competitive in the short run. After what may end up being 3-13, I would like competitive. Instead of a season that's over before Halloween. Get a real Cb and maybe this guy Marcus Williams can be part of an effective Cb rotation, with Wilson presumably gone, retain Harvin, upgrade OL, and maybe a developmental Qb this year or next year or both, and getting Cutler makes this team a solid mid-pack or even better team. I know you have noticed it, too, Brad, but the situation in Chicago is tailor made to screw up the kind of player Cutler is. Poor OL play and lack of a running game makes it nearly impossible to use play action or a vertical attack. Says here that the Jets' running game and a better OL should facilitate Cutler's strengths. He's also healthy.
