The off-season negotiations would have gone differently if the Jets had just said something non-committal about his possible return in 2016 early on. Something like "Ryan had a good year but you get paid for leading your team to the playoffs. We're going to play the off-season by ear and see what turns up." Fitzpatrick would have been begging the Jets for that 3 year deal at $8M a year at that point.
Geno is gone as well, it's a 2 man camp at this point. There is no need to worry about a 3rd QB at this point in the season, I think Mac learned his lesson, anyone who is worth anything is on a team already. FA QBs are a bunch of bums.
+100 I was pushing for getting T Taylor in FA but looks like Buff wont let him leave Plus I think its good Hack and petty get experience and get us 3 wins for tanking purposes By then Bowles will be through and we can be at the front of the line to draft Darnold or Rosen
in 2015 Fitz-Decker-Marshall formed the most dynamic pass throwing/catching trifecta in the history of the NYJets. in 2016 Decker is out for the season and we became the Team the Couldn't Pass Straight. But noooo, Decker had nothing to do with that.
Decker's injury hurt for sure. More than people know. Still, the young WR stepped up for the most part, and Fitz was embarrassing. I was his biggest supporter, so it shocked me the most. I thought he turned a new leaf in Green and White. I was DEAD WRONG. Hindsight is 20/20 though. After the 2015 season, the Jets absolutely should have re-signed him. It would have been a mistake to not get him back. It became a long offseason mess though. Shame.
6 ints against KC was the day our season ended. Is there ever a Jets story that starts out great and doesnt end in some kind of embarrasing disaster?
I thought Fitz had a decent chance of working out, and for $12 million I wanted to take that chance. IMO there were two main reasons it failed. The first is that Fitz didn't put in the necessary offseason work, which was part his fault and part Mac's for allowing it to drag on. The second is that age caught up to him, which he couldn't overcome because he never had a good arm to begin with. It's worth saying that 2016 Fitz wasn't only much worse than 2015 Fitz, he was also much worse than 2010-2014 Fitz. He had a nice run of a few seasons when he could function as a mediocre starter, but it came to a crashing halt last season.
The mentality seemed to change also with the pounding with Ivory. So losing Ivory AND Khiry Robinson hurt badly
The main issue is that Fitzpatrick was still Fitzpatrick and has always sucked I'm sorry most of our fans and the team itself couldn't or refused to see that Waste of time and money just like I said from day one
Right, instead you have toilet bowel proclaiming him starter,,, what an AH, not only is he a bad coach but he cannot even identify talent ....we are F in 2017.
With all due respect, when you target the same WR 75% of the time as fitz did in both seasons, then it really doesn't matter because Fitz was a one read presnap QB...
If we don't sign a FA QB I wouldn't be surprised to see him signed for a couple of million to help out with the young uns. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A magical 2015 that was followed up by one of the worst Jets seasons...Just glad Fitz didnt actually sign for that 3 year deal Macc was trying to hand him because then I would be on board with the fire Macc train.
