LDT himself said he just realised in the NFL he doesn't have to take every hit. I assume it is the same with Peterson and he learns to avoid big hits and so can stay healthy.
I do agree that more time should have been spent trying on improving their offense, but I do not believe that any favor was shown to the defense over the offense. It just so happens that the picks that went to the defensive side tended to work out a lot better than the offensive guys. Some cases it wasn't just that they didn't develop them, they might have just been bad picks. They tried to bring in some offensive guys, it's just that they weren't the players they thought they were. If anything, I'd blame the scouting department for that. They were able to hit on a few of those risks they took on Defense and make good on mid rounders (like Kirk Morrison), but they took the wrong chances on the offensive side. Though, in their defense I still have a hard time believing that Robert Gallery hasn't improved yet after how good he was at Iowa, and Andrew Walter has a lot of ability still, but the OL situation killed him. They did make a great pick on Kevin Boothe last year though, I'll give them that.
Raiders problems had more to do with very old outdated offense system and very poor design blocking scheme.(bad coaching) Anyone that thinks Raiders don't have talent on offense is fooling themself. Look up Baltimore ravens and dallas Dynasty teams and see how many years it took to build those teams. You think there fan base remember those lean years (took some very bad years) or the glory years(competing and winning numerous championships. Raiders roster is in excellent shape and with Ten picks in this draft and with number 1 PIck in every round. They have a chance to fix the rest of their holes pretty quickly.
Just to add to this conversation. Ohio State's Ted Ginn Jr is going to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest bust in this draft.... He's a one dimensional speed/deep route WR who can't take a hit for his life. Not to mention, he didn't help himself getting injured and sitting out the biggest game of his career... I see him being a good, maybe great, return guy, and a decent slot WR, at best. He will never be an effective #1 WR at the next level, mark my words
Again Your basing all your opinions off a distraous season. Again No one knows what raiders have at QB with A Walter. He really didn't have a chance with Lousy play design and bad blocking design last year. First most QB starting their first year are going to struggle. SEE P manning throwing 11 interceptions his first four games) Second NO QB would have done any better playing for Raiders last yaer. Coaching was that bad on offense. Still QB one of the most important position that Raiders have to draft a franchise caliber QB.(protect themselve) Walter develops than you have a very nice chip to trade down the road. (see matt Schaub) Raiders position from the new staff is that Raiders oline personal is not problem. Shell was teaching blocking technique no one uses anymore. Lets see what happens there. Tom Cable Raiders new Oline coach, says he has way more talent on oline with Raiders than he had with Falcons last year. Again Raiders have very few needs on defense(incredible young defense) and 10 picks to fix problems on offense. Again tell me after this year who inbetter position towinaq championship first. Raiders or Jets.
He reminds me a lot of Santana Moss and I didn't particularly like Santana Moss as a first round pick.
It all depends on what kind of team he goes to. If he goes to someone that already has some pieces in place in terms of a possession WR, a quality running game, a smart QB and a good scheme, he can be a great, GREAT playmaker. Will he ever be a 12 catch a game kind of guy? No. Does he have a chance to be a bust. Absolutely. But if he goes to the right team, he can be a Derrick Mason(in his prime), or Lynn Swann(who btw was overrated) type player. Personally, I think he should've stayed at CB from his freshman year. W/ his size, speed and athleticism, he would've been one of the best CB prospects since Champ Bailey..
The funny part about Ginn is that he's an absolutely dynamic return man. I won't say he was as good as Hester was, because nobody was that good, but he's just a notch below. Even if he's a good #2 WR in the NFL, if he's also a lights out pro bowl KR/PR, then I'd say he's worth a first round pick easily.
That was the argument for Moss. In retrospect was he a good pick at the 19, let alone the 19 + 4th and 6th? BTW, the moment I turned viciously against Bradway was not when he made that trade-up or when he picked Bryan Thomas over Ed Reed or when he let all the free agents go in 2003 or when he traded up for D-Rob. The moment I turned on him and realized he was a completely overmatched phony was when he and Herm let it be known that Santana Moss would no longer be returning punts so he could focus on his duties at wide receiver. What an idiot.
