Honest opinion, I think Lawrence stays for his senior season. Not to avoid the Jets, but Clemson players under Dabo don't always leave early. He doesn't strike me as a kid that needs the $$$, I think he actually loves the college life.
Wishful thinking on your part. I get it, I wouldn’t want a division rival to land one of the best QB prospects of all time either. Trevor is graduating in December and has already said this is his last season and has probably been planning for this to be his last college season since high school. Could he change his mind? Sure but it’s extremely unlikely.
AMEN! And most of those here wetting their pants for Lawrence also did the same over the drafting of the "sure thing" Adams over Mahomes. That's all you need to know about how much to credit their football intelligence.
You're telling me the Jets were so overmatched talent wise vs. the Broncos that he couldn't wing the ball around for 300? Or the 4-12 Giants last year? Or that 2-14 Bengals team last year? Or the Bills backups? C'mon dude. Burrow has thrown for 300 yards against the 1st ranked passing defense and 12th ranked passing defense. He was sacked 10 times in those two games and completed 67% of his passes.
What you said was that coaching and talent have nothing to do with it. That's ridiculous. And it's more than just taking the first 6 games of Burrowns career and extrapolating it to 30+ games as Darnold has played because that omits the cumulative effects of playing for shitty coaches and with lousy sub-NFL talent for all those games. Sure, Burrows has all the cockiness that his college success imbued him with, but if he spends the next 2 and half seasons getting hounded and pounded, and trying to make a pre-passing era offense work, he's not going to look that good. Your prejudice against Darnold really colors your ability to assess.
Did the Jets really blow it with Sanchez? Or did they get more out of him than any other team? Besides no one that had anything to do with “blowing it with Sanchez” are still in the building to blow it for Lawrence. As for Darnold, the main ingredient in his failing is Adam Gase, I’m sure most would agree with that. Well he won’t be around to fail Trevor Lawrence. It remains to be seen on JD but he is the most well respected GM the Jets have had and we just gotta hope that he does a better job building around Lawrence. As I’ve said before the Jets will be in a better situation building around Lawrence than they were Darnold given the presence of the franchise LT already in place, the amount of high picks in the next two drafts as well as a new HC coming in to pair with him on the same timeline. Obviously the job doesn’t end with drafting the QB but to say drafting one of the best qb prospects of all time is not the answer is just negative darksider nonsense.
Burrow is on pace to be sacked 64 times this year (4th worst mark in NFL history). Sam had been sacked 63 times in his first 26 games. Not great totals. But don't talk to me about the kid getting hounded and pounded. His offensive line is atrocious dude. His head coach is 3-18-1 as a head coach. He's been more competitive as a passer in his games this year than Darnold has. That's not really debatable. If Darnold is so damaged by supporting cast + his coaching staff then he's damaged goods and we need to move on anyway.
Does Burrow have to play in a "Gase Offense" which is an oxymoron? Does he have receivers as bad as Darnold? And are you completely forgetting the times that Darnold has lit up other teams? Yes, at this point Darnold may be ruined, and I do agree that Lawrence is a better prosepct than Darnold ever was, but if we simply get rid od Sam and plug in Lawrence, do you really think there will be much improvement? And before you say, "Well Gase wont be here", let me say once again that until Gase is actually gone, he is still the HC of the Jets.
That doesn't mean a thing though. Darnold is obviously much better at creating and running around in the pocket. Just because he wasn't sacked as much as Burrow, doesnt mean that Darnold wasn't behind the worst OL in the league last year. Burrow actually has weapons to work with. Darnold's best weapon has been Crowder. That's extremely telling. The roster is miles below the Bengals roster. If JB was the QB of this team, I refuse to believe we would be looking any better. I honestly think we would look worse given the talent, coaching, and JB's skill set. You can't just put a guy back there and expect him to look like the savior of this team without having something feasible to work with. That's not realistic.
Have you watched Burrow play? He runs around a lot. It has nothing to do with avoiding sacks better. His line is fucking atrocious. And yeah Gase sucks. But is Zac Taylor some sort of stud coach or something? Or does he look like he sucks or not? 3-18-1...
Zac Taylor may in fact suck, but his offense - or the offense the teams runs - is at least an NFL offense, not an offense that pre-dates the forward pass concept.
Anderson doesn't count anymore? That's all fine. He's still a rookie and looks better than the third year pro. Gardner Minshew looks better than Sam dude. Is he rolling with a great cast + coaching staff too? The unwillingness to acknowledge that the player does not look good and is more responsible for his own performance around here is mind blowing. The coach sucks. Cool. The coach isn't throwing the ball over open receivers heads or not throwing over the middle or looking skiddish in the pocket without pressure.
Lol what? He's not extrapolating at all. He's doing the opposite in fact. He's saying that even if Burrow never plays another game he'd still basically have more big yardage games than Sam has in his entire career.
The Bengals were 30th in points per game and 26th in yards per game last year. Yeah clearly Taylor is an offensive genius.
Burrow is on a much better team, but I disagree that age has nothing to do with it. People generally mature as they age, and added maturity helps in dealing with conflict, stress, bad situations, etc.
Anderson clearly doesn't play for the Jets. What does that matter? When he was here, Darnold got him the ball, they were productive... Obviously, you remove pieces from the equation and you don't replenish that talent, you then get a result like we are seeing now. Minshew isn't lighting up the league, they are 1-5 for a reason. They still have better talent and more consistent players than we do. Crowder has 300+ yds receiving. The next closest guy Is fucking, Berrios. BERRIOS, with a 140 yards on the year. That is pathetic. You are unwilling to acknowledge just how bad the talent on this team is. You are unwilling to see the result without pointing the finger first. It's not rocket science. If you don't have weapons, If everyone around you Is low tier players, you are going to see low tier results. I don't care If Tom Brady or Peyton Manning was behind center, they wouldn't look good either with the talent on this team. It's brain dead obvious to me... You seem to forget when he actually looked good, when he didn't have a HC that doesn't belong In this league actually calling the shots. You act like Darnold Is "skiddish" for no reason. Just happened? Yeah? We all know that Isn't the case. It's cause and effect. When you give your "FQB" shit to work with, you're going to see shit results. Again. Not rocket science.
