I disagree. Bortles or Hoyer are not "fine" or good enough, either on the field or in terms of mentoring the Jets young QB. I also disagree that Douglas hasn't seemed to value the back-up QB position. Why did he draft Morgan if he didn't value the back-up QB position?

Value as in have a quality back-up in case Sam got injured. So far he had Trevor Siemian and Joe Flacco coming off neck surgery. Neither produced when Sam was injured. I am just saying I hope they do end up with a quality back-up for the next QB. Maybe you are right and it will be James Morgan, but he is unproven at the moment. It would be nice to have a solid veteran presence, who can not only mentor, but step in and win a few games if need be.

If they trade out of the #2, then the first 3 picks off the board will be QB's. No one is trading up to #2 for a non QB. Jags are taking Lawrence and SF is taking a QB. So who do you prefer as the 4th QB selected (assuming they are still there when the Jets pick)?

That would make sense if Qbs that leave here go onto have success elsewhere but no QB that has left here has been better off at their next destination. The Jets certainly don’t do any Qbs any favors with lack of weapons but I feel the Jets are just unlucky or just bad at selecting Qbs.

I agree that the Jets need at least a solid, decent veteran QB. I don't see Bortles or Hoyer as that. They may be fine sitting on the bench, but not when they set foot on the field imo.

Yeah, agreed. I mentioned those for 2021, as in Joe Douglas does not necessarily care about winning if Wilson/Morgan etc are not ready to start. Alex Smith, Nick Mullens, Blake Bortles, etc could start, and possibly win a few games, but you can't trust them. In 2022, Wilson will be the starter for sure, so I hope to have a solid back-up by then, as the Jets should be much more competitive.

I don't see the benefit of keeping Sam to start or be a back-up in 2021 though. It will just make for an awkward QB room, awkward locker room, etc. I say almost 0% chance Sam would stay while Wilson is drafted at #2. That is why I feel one of those other guys will be fine for 2021. Not ideal, but there are not many options.

Another name I would throw out there is Nick Foles. Are the Bears really keeping him with Andy Dalton? Wouldn't make much sense for them, but he would be a solid back-up option for the Jets.

Probably....but Im trying to understand JDs reasons for keeping Sam in his back pocket. One possibility is Sam sucks and only got a 4th round offer so JD said nope. Could there be any other reasons? If not the 4th round offer, what's your best guess? Go!

If a small trade down came with a boat load, then maybe Justin Fields? Mac J? Trey? Who knows. It looks like there will be 3 going in the top 3. Almost never happens, but could this year. The NFL drafts has NEVER had 4 going in the top 4. Could this be the year? Certainly any trade down would be risky since all the good ones may be gone. Maybe that's why JD's keeping Sam in his pocket? Fall back-back-back? Your guess is as good as mine.

James Morgan is not NFL ready, and it seems like he may never be? Drafting guys who aren't NFL ready is an added gamble because sometimes they never get NFL ready. Kind of like another potential pick I've heard mentioned.

    Josh McCown
    Trevor Seiman
    Luke Falk
    Joe Flacco

Nine starts be between these guys over the last three seasons, and none of them won a game for us. The only QB who has won a game for the Jets since 2018 was Darnold. That's how bad our teams have been for Sam.

I love Pitts. JD probably does too. Say JD trades down to 8 (with Carolina) for a boat load hoping to score either Mac Jones or Justin Fields, but they are both gone by 8. So JD pivots back to Sam and takes Pitts at 8!

My guess is he doesn't want to trade away a starting QB, albeit not a good one, until he has someone that can replace him.

I would love to see that and IMO its one of our last chances to salvage this draft. History will show not trading with Phily was one of the worst draft decisions we have ever made.
